A friend recently told me she felt stuck, like life had paused mid-sentence and she wasn’t
sure how to move forward. It made me think about how much our lives really do resemble a book. Not a short story, not a single page, but a full, evolving story made up of chapters. Some are exciting. Some are difficult. Some feel like they go on forever. But the beauty is this: a well-written book keeps moving. It turns the page. And so can you.
You’re Not Meant to Stay in One Chapter
Think about your favorite book. Would you want the story to stay in the same place forever? Probably not. The characters grow, situations shift, and new experiences unfold.
Life works the same way. Yet sometimes, we hold on to a chapter long after it has run its course, whether it’s a job, a routine, a mindset, or even something physical in our space. We revisit the same thoughts, follow the same patterns, and wonder why nothing feels different. But growth doesn’t happen in repetition. It happens in transition.
Every Chapter Has a Purpose
Even the chapters you didn’t enjoy served a role. Maybe they taught you patience. Maybe they pushed you to become more resilient, more aware, or more intentional with your time and energy.
Instead of wishing a chapter away, try this simple shift: What did this season teach me and how can I carry that into the next one? That’s how a story gains depth.
Turning the Page Doesn’t Have to Be Dramatic
We tend to think a "new chapter" means a big, bold change...something obvious and life-altering. But more often, it begins quietly.
It might show up as a new thought you keep coming back to. A small decision that feels different from your usual pattern. A moment where you
realize you’re ready to approach something in a new way.
Instead of asking, What big change should I make? try asking, What feels like the next right step for me?
Maybe it’s giving yourself permission to want something different. Maybe it’s revisiting an
idea you set aside. Or simply admitting that where you are right now isn’t where you want to stay. That awareness alone can be the turning point.
If you want to make it more tangible, sit down with a notebook and finish this sentence: "In my next chapter, I want…" Don’t overthink it. Just write what comes to mind. You might be
surprised how quickly the direction starts to take shape.
You Don’t Need the Whole Story Yet
One of the biggest reasons people hesitate to move forward is because they feel like they need to have everything figured out. You don’t. When you
start a new chapter in a book, you don’t know exactly what’s going to happen. You just keep reading. Life is the same way. You only need a sense of direction, not a detailed plan.
Give Your Next Chapter a Title
This is one of my favorite
little exercises, and it’s surprisingly powerful. If your next chapter had a title, what would it be?
"Simplifying My Space and My Mind"
"Stronger, Healthier, and More
Energized"
"Letting Go and Moving Forward"
"Making Time for What Matters Most"
There’s no right or wrong answer. But naming it gives it shape. Suddenly, it feels real.
The Story Keeps Going
Your life isn’t meant to stay in one place, and it isn’t meant
to be perfectly planned out either. The chapters you’ve already lived through, easy or difficult, have all added something to who you are today.
And now, you’re simply at a place where something new is ready to begin. You don’t need a full outline. You don’t need all the answers. You just need a willingness to keep
going.
So if things have felt a little paused lately, or unclear, that doesn’t mean the story has stalled. It just means you’re between chapters.
And the next one? It begins
the moment you decide you’re ready to move forward...even in the smallest, quietest way.
