How Many TO DOs Do You Actually Want To Do?
Have a quick peek at your MASTER LIST and TO DO LIST (you do HAVE both of
these lists, right?) and count up how many TO DOs are tasks/projects that you
actually WANT to do.
Just as a reminder, a MASTER LIST is a long list of everything there is to be
done, in no particular order or rank. A TO DO LIST is what you're planning to do
TODAY...and that should have no more than 4 to 6 tasks. Whether I choose 4 or 6
depends on the complexity of the tasks and the length of time they'll take.
Nothing else goes on the TO DO list until those 4-6 tasks are complete. This is
how you can always get things accomplished, every single day, without fail.
Anyway, I was looking at my lists, and certainly everything on them is
important. Some involve business tasks (like important writing projects and
media interviews). Others include home tasks (like grocery shopping and driving
my daughter to swim practice).
As I was transferring my 4 to 6 tasks from my MASTER LIST to my TO DO LIST, I
realized that everything I pulled over today was a HAVE-TO...and not a WANT-TO.
Now, I'm not saying that any of the HAVE-TO tasks are that bad. It's not like I
really dread doing any of them. It's just that none of these are tasks that
would be on my list if I were making a WANT-TO LIST.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to ONLY have WANT-TOs on my list, but money
doesn't grow on trees, my lotto ticket numbers haven't worked out in my favor
yet, the house isn't go to clean itself, the fridge isn't going to fill
itself...you get the idea.
But, what would be on my list if I had the time to do so? I'd love to get outside
and read a bit. I'd enjoy contacting a friend just to chat awhile. I'd have fun
making two unsweetened iced teas, 'to go', and sharing them in a peaceful park
with my daughter. I'd like to scrapbook a photo layout or two for my memory
books. I would like to try out a new recipe on the grill. There are more
WANT-TOs, of course, but these are just a few I came up with.
A list that ONLY includes HAVE-TOs is exhausting to look at...and doesn't
lend itself well to a balanced, enjoyable, fulfilling life.
In light of this, I chose one of today's HAVE-TO tasks and moved it back onto
the MASTER LIST...for tomorrow...AND I chose one WANT-TO and moved that onto
today's list.
I'm already feeling better about my list just by making that one tiny change,
and I know at the end of the day, I'll be happy that I made the choice to do
and complete something that made a positive and fun impact on my day.

Theme of the Week: Authenticity...and our home page quotes reflect
that theme. Use them for added inspiration and motivation this week
getorganizednow.com
Week Beginning June 24th
1. Forgive someone. Forgiveness Day is June 26th. Have you been
holding a grudge against anyone? If so, use today to free yourself and someone
else of this stronghold.
2. Vacuum under sofas and love seats...and under the seat cushions too.
Actually move the furniture (get someone to help you if it's heavy) and vacuum
underneath both. Return to position when you're done. Then, remove the seat
cushions, remove any items (coins, toys, etc.), and vacuum using your handvac
or brush attachment on your regular vacuum. Then, return the seat cushions to
position.
3. Organize your medicine cabinet. It could get messy in there. Empty it
out completely. Get rid of anything you're not using (be sure to safely dispose
of any medicine that's expired...and realize that the bathroom isn't the best
place to store medicine in the first place. It's too damp in there.) Wipe down
the shelves to remove dust and debris. Return 'keepers' back, sorting into
logical categories...like keeping toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash all in one
spot.
4. Use up a gift card. Did you receive a gift card that you never used?
Go to that store this week and get something you need. If you don't need
anything at that store, consider re-gifting that card, donating it to an
organization to be used as a fundraiser prize, or exchange it for another gift
card or cash using an online gift card exchange program.
5. Make a recipe you found on Pinterest. So many folks 'pin' recipes
they found on Pinterest, but never actually make one. If this sounds like you,
break that pattern this week and give it a whirl. If you like it, keep it. If
not, delete that pin.
Singing is my passion, my first love and the secret of my energy. Music to me
is like finding my inner self, my soul. It gives me a great joy to see audiences
enjoying with me. I have given my heart to singing. When I sing, I can feel
romance in everything around me.
