It's the Little Things
It's the little things. How often have we heard that phrase? Maybe when we treat
ourselves to a small piece of chocolate or a glass of wine before dinner?
But do we really think about what we are saying? It's easy to not even notice
all the little things that contribute to our happiness or sense of well-being
throughout the day...things like that first sip of coffee in the morning, or the
soft, fleecy slippers we slide our feet into when we get out of bed. Sometimes
little things come upon us suddenly. Today, as I pulled out of the coffee shop,
I spotted about twenty birds, bathing, drinking and seeming to play in a large
puddle of water along the street. They appeared to be having such a good time, I
could not help but smile and feel a small burst of joy.
Have you ever tried to pay attention and count up all the 'little things' in a
day? I did recently...and found myself astounded by just how many there were.
The above mentioned soft, fuzzy slippers and the first sip of morning coffee.
The scone with the coffee. The expectant looks on our pet bunny's face as he
awaited his breakfast.
While putting sheets into the washer can be considered work, it is also a chance
for appreciation...for having a washing machine, and sheets, and clean water in
which to wash them. It's the same even with cleaning house...how fortunate I
feel having a home to clean.
If you go all through the day endeavoring to be mindful, you will find a
multitude of little joys and things to be glad about. From the sound of birdsong
in the yard to the satisfaction of rearranging shelves, making them more
organized.
A trip to the grocery store, with the abundance of fruits and vegetables from
different parts of the country, and even different countries constitutes a
pleasant adventure. Music or your favorite show on the radio are things to be
enjoyed.
Sure, the big things--a new car, a vacation, a family reunion (especially if
someone else did the planning and hosting) are wonderful in their own right as
well. But they are not everyday occurrences. It's all those wonderful small
things that, when you consider them singly and together, make up most of the joy
in our lives.
Today's project: Start noticing all those little things around you that give you
that little lift, or would if you were more conscious of them. How many can you
find? There are journals available for writing down daily gratitudes. They often
suggest five or ten per day. However, I think many more can be found in all of
our lives if we are mindful and make an effort to notice them. How many small
things that bring you joy or lightness can you find in your life today?

Our lives pull is in many different directions. It's on these paths that we find
joy, inner peace, laughter, wisdom, compassion, serenity, balance, love,
creativity, motivation, inspiration, and fulfillment.
It's very easy to step off these paths and spend the majority of our time
hanging out in the alleys of TO DOs, obligations, and chores. Of course, we have
to hang out in those areas for a little while each day, but life can be so much
more than that...if we allow it.
I love to write about things that take our thoughts and minds 'beyond the
alleys' so to speak...perspectives and ideas that inspire and entertain.
In light of this, my ANYTHING and EVERYTHING resource is filled to the brim with
personal stories, humor, countless ideas that anyone can benefit from, easy
creativity projects, delicious foods, monthly assignments for a more balanced
life, very cool things I've learned, recommendations on movies I've watched,
books I've read, and products I've used, ways to enjoy your social time...and
your time with friends and family, what I do to make my own life easier and more
fun, unique adventures you can take right in your own town or nearby, ways to
stay fit and healthy, ideas to look and feel your very best...it's way too much
to even list!
ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is created in full color...you can print it out if you'd
like...or read it on your tablet or laptop. Each month, you can relax and enjoy
it while snuggled on your sofa with a cup of tea, outside on your patio in the
fresh air, in a park while you're listening to the birds sing--whatever strikes
your fancy.
Then you can pass it on to your family members for their enjoyment!
Each month, you'll receive a full issue (12 pages or more!) of information
you're going to love..

In a nutshell, ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is your perfect companion for being your

Theme of the Week: Productivity...and our home page quotes reflect
that theme.

Week Beginning November 4th
1. Write up your Thanksgiving timeline. Whether you're cooking,
traveling, visiting guests, or doing something else on Turkey Day, it's a very
good idea to write up an hour-by-hour timeline. When the day arrives, you
just follow your plan.
2. Make a list of healthy meals. With the holidays coming up, and all the
indulgent meals that go with it, it's a good idea to plan for healthier meals
and snacks on the non-holiday days. Make a list of a bunch of possibilities,
and use those to meal plan this month.
3. Begin thinking about Christmas cards. If you mail out Christmas cards
with family photos, this is a good week to decide on the photos you're going to
use, or get those family photos taken. To ensure a more enjoyable,
less-stressful process, cards should be ordered within the next two weeks, and
be ready for you to begin mailing right after Thanksgiving.
4. What do YOU want for Christmas this year? If you don't want to get
stuck with a whole bunch of gifts you can't use, why not make a Wish List this
year? My family and extended family uses Amazon's wish list service and really
love it. Another possibility is to buy smaller, less expensive gifts, and
purchase one large family gift...or go on a trip together.
5. Declutter, declutter, declutter. I can't emphasize this enough. This
time of year is the best time to do it...before more Christmas gifts arrive and
before the new year. If you begin today and just get rid of an item or two a
day, your house will be a lot lighter. Plus, if you donate these items to thrift
stores and such, those who shop at thrift stores will appreciate your surplus!
You need to let the little things that would ordinarily bore you suddenly
thrill you.
