Watering Plants...
Making it Easy and Remembering to Do It
My neighbor sits gallon milk jugs by her plants to make watering easier. I took
that concept a step further as I use the gallon jugs by new transplants. One, I
remember they are there (busy schedule) and 2), I put the date planted on the
jug, the plant name, and any instructions or when I fertilized the plant.
Now, if I am going out the gate to work, I can water quickly and I can keep
track of what is planted and where.

Do You Have Any Hints on Meditation?
A GON Reader Asks
I enjoy your newsletters and share them with my friends frequently! I was just
wondering if you have any hints on meditation? I am reading a book on how to
meditate and am interested in that subject. Thanks so much for all your ideas on
organizing and helpful hints.

Maria Gracia Responds
Hi Karen,
I'm so glad you asked because, with meditation, you can actually organize your
mind to get things done, while remaining calm, and actually enjoying your day at
the same time.
1) Schedule 2 minutes per day to sit quietly. So many people say they
have absolutely no time to meditate, or that they'll go crazy if they're just
sitting still. Trust me, I don't have time to meditate all day, but I do think
it's important to stop for a few moments every single day to regroup. I suggest
you start by scheduling just 2 minutes for meditation...everybody can easily
commit to this. You can either meditate first thing in the morning when you wake
up (meditating at a consistent time may ensure you don't forget to meditate), or
whenever your preferred time of day may be. Just commit to meditating
consistently, like once per day. It's the repetitive nature of meditation that
will provide the most benefit.
2) Don't worry about doing it wrong. There is no one right way to
meditate. If you're getting stressed about where to do it, what cushion you're
sitting on, what you should wear, etc., chances are, you're not going to
keep up with it. It will become a chore. Just sit somewhere that's quiet,
make yourself comfortable, and begin. You can be at home, on the beach, in
a park, on your deck, on the bus during your commute...anywhere.
3) Focus on a theme. I find that I meditate best when I have a 'theme
focus.' So, the focus of one day's meditation might be 'autumn blessings,' 'the
present moment...experiencing everything around you with all your senses,' 'your
short-term goals,' or 'forgiveness.' Yes, your mind may wander, and that's OK.
When you notice you've wandered away from your theme, simply bring yourself
back.
4) Have a journal and a pen with you. Once my 2-minutes are up, I always
jot down any thoughts I had during my meditation session. In doing so, I won't
forget what I was thinking, AND I'll have something to reference...whether I
use those thoughts to do a project, work through a challenge, reflect on later,
or even to use as the subject of tomorrow's meditation session.
Hope this helps. Meditation is a wonderful tool to use on your life journey!

Everyone gets 24 hours in each day. Because our time is so precious, and because
it vanishes so quickly, it's vitally important to use that time well.
What do you get accomplished each day?
If the answer is, 'next to nothing', or 'not nearly as much as I would like,'
then it's definitely worth it to take a look at what's on your TO DO list, and
if those items are helping you get to where you want to be.
Don't confuse activity with real accomplishments. Twiddling your thumbs is
activity, but it's not going to get you anywhere fast.
In light of this, I've recently discovered an incredible tool that will help you
get more done than you've ever imagined.
It's called The Action Machine, my husband and I BOTH use it, AND we highly
recommend it to anyone who wants to make the most of his or her day. Visit:
