Two Things That Help Me Cope...
My Dad died on Christmas Eve several years ago. Two things helped me: 1)
My friend suggested that next year we do things a little differently so we
wouldn't feel the lack of him being there as much and 2) I donate the gift I
would have bought him (or the money equivalent) in his name. It makes me feel
like he is still going on with us. Actually, I do this for all my relatives who
have passed on.

GON Reader Letter: Reminders to Organize
In a recent newsletter, you were to talking about hair days. So, I organized a
schedule to have my hair washed, conditioned, and braided at the salon...then
lined at the barbershop...every two weeks (every other Saturday). I also plan to
set up a schedule to have all my pants and jeans starched and pressed at the dry
cleaners every week.
In other words, with reading your material, I realize that when I do not feel
like organizing my life, that is the time that I immediately should start
organizing my life.
Thank you for the constant reminders!

A Reader Asks, 'How Do I Find the Motivation to Organize'
A GON Reader Asks
I really want to get organized, but it's very hard for me to get motivated. I
went through a divorce three months ago, and I have stuff everywhere, lots of
which remind me of my ex-husband, who I don't want to be reminded of. But
there's so much clutter...and I'm tired when I get home from work. I could
probably do some over the weekend, but I want to enjoy my Saturdays and Sundays.
Any advice on how I find the motivation to organize?

Maria Gracia Responds
Hi Bryn,
Thanks for your note. It's a wonderful time for you to begin a new life with new
goals and adventures, which entails getting rid of those items that bring back
sad or angry memories. You deserve to be happy, so use this as motivation number
one. Plus, when you clear out the clutter, you will have a less-obstructive path
to happiness, so that's motivation number two.
In your case, it sounds like you're simply overwhelmed because you see a big job
ahead of you. There's only one way to make that big job easier and that's to
STOP viewing this project as BIG. Today, get rid of ONE thing. It doesn't matter
what it is. Grab something and put it in a donation box or bag. Tomorrow, do the
same. The next day, do the same. When the bag or box is full, donate it. And
then begin again...until all you're left with is the items you use and love.
This method also alleviates the 'I have no time' excuse. Everyone has time to
put ONE item in a box or bag. And when your box or bag is full, if you don't
have time to 'bring' it to a charity, make a call so the charity picks up from
you...which is available almost everywhere.
I'm excited for you to begin your new life, and this is a great way to begin
chapter one.
Hope this helps,
Maria

Say GOODBYE to Your CLUTTER
My Most Complete, Easy-to-Use, and Effective
Clutter-Busting Resource Available
For super quick details on how you can say goodbye to clutter, visit:
http://www.getorganizednow.com/rd-goodbyeclutter.html
All people have clutter to some degree.
You may have a little bit of clutter sitting around--things that aren't really
serving any purpose, taking up unnecessary space, gathering dust, and causing a
bit of frustration.
Or perhaps you have LOADS of clutter and it's causing your life to be turned
upside down--you can't find things easily, you feel like your home is bursting
at the seams with STUFF, you have to climb over piles and boxes to get to
anything, and you feel overwhelmed and frustrated.
MOST people are somewhere right in the middle of these two situations.
For anyone who just has a little bit of clutter, have no doubt in your mind that
CLUTTER GROWS, and small challenges soon turn into large issues.
BUT, here's something NEW I discovered...
Clutter is sneaky...it doesn't only show up in the pile of shoes you may have in
your closet, the overload of toys in the toy room, the boxes of stuff in the
basement, or the stuffed-to-the-max drawers and closets in your home.
Clutter actually invades your life in FOUR forms...
1. Physical Clutter
2. Paper Clutter
3. Digital Clutter
4. Emotional Clutter
And once it's there, it begins to wreak all sorts of havoc...
