  Fabulous Reader Tip

A Question I Ask Myself When Weeding Out Books I Own

I have started re-reading the books in my home library and asking one question afterwards, 'Do I want to read this again in my lifetime?'

I'm 65, and so far, and I've read (and own) thousands of books, mostly fiction. For instance, I have the entire works of Edgar Rice Burroughs (45 of them).

So far, I've been tossing what I know I won't re-read into a small laundry basket and taking them to the library book sale...so they will hopefully delight someone else.

By doing this, I now have room on the shelves to store and display new books. Yes, I'm still buying favorite authors.

Carbs Can Be Very Complex

Yes, this is a cute pun on carbs, but carbs are, in fact, complex in understanding. This is especially true when foods like potatoes, bananas, and rice can be one person's worst fat-loss enemy, while for others those very same foods can be their very best fat-loss friends.

What it all comes down to is that each individual is unique, and when it comes to women, each has her own unique hormones and metabolism.

This nifty tool helps pinpoint which foods and exercises help you burn fat the fastest, based on how your own hormones and metabolism actually work. Visit:

GON Reader Letter: Thank you for reminding us that we can do it!

I have been reading your web site, newsletters, and other materials for so long, that I checked your 'quick organizing tips' on your site, and found that I have been doing many of your recommended tips routinely for quite a while now.

I am NOT an organized person by nature, but following simple organizing rules learned from reading your information, such as 'touch paper only once,' 'find it a home,' and, for example, the tip about putting sheet sets together inside one matching pillowcase, impressed my kids when they came to visit!

Even more importantly, all of these organizing solutions help to reduce stress. Thank you, and keep reminding us that we can do it!

A Reader Asks, 'How Can I Make My Boss Get Organized?'

A GON Reader Asks

How can I make my 'boss' get organized? I'm his only staff. Two of us. Both are working from home. All work orders come in by email and I handle them. He often misreads the due date and time, so I always check with him, yet he makes errors despite my double or triple checks. His shrink also advised him to make a journal. He tries, but forgets to jot down and easily forgets what date today is.

His time management is very poor and I work extra, instead of him (to cover for him!), in the past few months to meet deadlines. I complained to him straightforward and his excuse is always 'I can't type fast,' 'reference materials are poor,' or 'running out of time.' (The former lawyer is good at making excuses you know).

Actually I do work on almost everything, because he is too slow. After delivering our work to the client, he's happy and sends me an apology email. It is very hard for me to have him admit he has problems. If I quit, it means his business must be ceased! He knows it and offers me some extra wages, which is fair, but it's very stressful to work with my disorganized employer!

Maria Gracia Responds

Hi Sendai,

It sounds like you're a very organized, logical, detail-oriented, hard worker and your boss is lucky to have you on board.

As you know, businesses need to be organized in order to be efficient and profitable. Yet, there are many employers out in the world who have difficulties when it comes to being detail-oriented and organized. Because of this, they depend on people like you to help them stay on track.

If the work orders are coming in, you could you possibly organize them by due date on an online calendar that you can both utilize. Perhaps having a visual in front of him, with all of the work laid out along with the deadlines, will make it easier for him to stay on schedule. It should also help him to prioritize which jobs need to be addressed first and hopefully will help to cut down on last-minute crunches to get work done.

A beginning of the week email sent to him, telling him of all the tasks you will be working on in the upcoming week, may help to remind him of what needs to be completed that week...as well as keep the two of you better connected. In fact, being that he's not detail-oriented, it sounds like you two should also have a follow-up conversation after the email is sent, perhaps via video chat.

To answer your driving question, you can't MAKE someone organized who either doesn't want to be organized, hasn't made this goal a priority in his or her life, or is, perhaps suffering with a medical issue like ADHD.

One thing I'll note is that you mentioned you 'complained to him.' I know how frustrating life can get, but complaining rarely solves problems. Take another approach. Have a heart-to-heart with him. Tell him you're concerned about his business and want to do what you can to help him, but that you're feeling the stress and you'd like to work together to help solve some of the issues. This is less confrontational and more solution-focused.

What this all comes down to is whether or not you wish to continue working for this company. Obviously, you're working hard, you care, and your boss cares enough about you to recognize the work you're doing...hence the apology notes and the extra compensation.

However, if you're constantly under stress, that's not healthy. Some people can work under these conditions, realizing that they're going to have to really be on top of things and not allowing the disorganization of their boss to 'get to them.' For others, this just isn't possible. So, it's important to decide if this is the job for you, or not. Keeping that in mind, if you decide to leave the job, and if, in turn, the business fails, you should not feel in any way responsible.

Hope this at least leaves you with a few ideas and new perspectives.

Thanks for writing,

Maria Gracia

Potatoes, Rice, or Bananas...
Which Helps Speed Fat Loss the Best for Women?
Find Out

Which of these carbs helps speed fat loss the best for women?

1. Potatoes
2. Rice
3. Bananas

Shockingly, the answer can be all, some or none of them...

So say the results of a remarkable Israeli study published in the journal, Cell. Here's how to make sense of this oddity:

The researchers pulled off an incredible feat by tracking how the blood sugar levels of 800 people reacted to various foods. They tracked 46,000 meals over 7 days...the largest study of its kind ever.

And get this. For some, eating sushi raised blood sugar levels more than eating ice cream. For others, it was the opposite. That's an incredible finding given high blood sugar can slam the breaks on fat loss.

Who would've thought sushi would be more fattening than ice cream for some women?

And the same holds true for carbs. For some women, potatoes, bananas, and rice can be their worst fat-loss enemies...while for others those very same foods can be their very best fat-loss friends.

The key is to find out how your female hormones and metabolism reacts to different foods. This principle also applies to different exercises... what works best for one woman may backfire for another.

So, what happens when you put your best fat-burning foods and exercises together at the same time?

Well, that's when the stars align and life-changing transformations can happen.

This nifty tool helps pinpoint which foods and exercises help you burn fat the fastest, based on how your own hormones and metabolism actually work. Visit:
