Want a More Productive Week? Start with Sunday!
While traditionally a day of rest, I also think of Sunday as my prep day. With
just a little advance planning and preparation on Sunday, the week ahead has a
much smoother flow.
1. Know what's on the coming week's agenda. Begin with your calendar.
Give it a good once-over so you know what's coming up. What appointments,
meetings, and other activities are scheduled? What's on this week's TO DO list?
It's better to know what to expect in the week ahead, then to be surprised on
busy weekday mornings.
2. Get inspired and motivated. I always grab my journal on Sundays and
take a few moments to write. This could be a quote I want to focus on for the
week, or something I am especially grateful for, or something somebody said or
did that made me smile. It could be a goal I'm getting ready to work on, an idea
I'd like to get off the ground, or a reward I plan to enjoy for work I
accomplished. Really, it could be anything that makes you happy and gets your
mind into 'thinking' mode for the week ahead.
3. Know what meals you're making. I almost always use Monday to plan out
my meals for the week, which I develop around my family's schedule for that
week. For instance, if I look at the schedule and I see that everyone is coming
and going on a particular night, I'll choose a slow cooker meal or individual
casseroles that can be heated in the microwave. If we have more time and
everyone is home that night, I might make a meal that's a bit more involved
because others are around to help prepare, cook, and clean up afterwards.
4. Know what you're wearing. If what you wear every day is important to
you, on Sundays I like to at least have a general idea of outfits I'm going to
wear in the week ahead. This way, I can make sure what I want to wear is
laundered, ironed if necessary, and not in need of repair (like a loose button
or hem coming loose). If it's in need of repair, I generally handle that task on
Sundays. I encourage my 14-year-old daughter to do the same, and she has come
to like doing this too...especially on school days.
5. Get things set to go. It's sometimes tough to leave a relaxing weekend
and get back into the swing-of-things on Mondays. Make a standard 'evening' and
'morning' checklist and display it near your exit door. (I do this on my
computer so the list doesn't have to be re-written or re-typed from week to
week...just updated and printed.) Evening TO DOs might include signing school
permission slips or charging electronics (no one wants to find their phone with
only 10% battery as they head out the door.) Morning tasks might include
grabbing lunch from the fridge, or taking the umbrella if it's going to rain.
What I do on Sundays is, I look at the standard list and determine if there are
any 'one-time tasks' for that week in addition to the 'standard items,' like
remembering to take a friend's birthday gift on Tuesday or grabbing the library
tote to return books approaching their due date on Thursday. If there are, I add
them to the week's evening and/or morning lists.
6. Take care of a few small things. I like to relax on Sundays, but I do
handle a few small tasks to ensure my week ahead is easier. I usually do a load
of laundry, water the plants, and do a 10-minute project or two, like
straightening out the linen closet, or cleaning out my purse. Get fuel for the
car on Sundays too and a car wash if you need it...it's nice to have these tasks
done before the week begins.
7. Recharge your batteries. Something I always do on Sundays, without
fail, is I build in 'Me Time,' which is at least an hour or more to recharge my
batteries. I might scrapbook, give myself an hour to read the paper or surf the
Internet while enjoying a cup of coffee, file and paint my nails, give myself an
hour of uninterrupted reading time, or cuddle up and watch a movie. At the end
of the day on Sunday, I go to bed early to ensure I'm well-rested for the
week ahead.
I see Sundays as a day of rest AND the perfect day to jumpstart a productive
week ahead!

Everyone gets 24 hours in each day. Because our time is so precious, and because
it vanishes so quickly, it's vitally important to use that time well.
What do you get accomplished each day?
If the answer is, 'next to nothing', or 'not nearly as much as I would like,'
then it's definitely worth it to take a look at what's on your TO DO list, and
if those items are helping you get to where you want to be.
Don't confuse activity with real accomplishments. Twiddling your thumbs is
activity, but it's not going to get you anywhere fast.
In light of this, I've recently discovered an incredible tool that will help you
get more done than you've ever imagined.
It's called The Action Machine, my husband and I BOTH use it, AND we highly
recommend it to anyone who wants to make the most of his or her day. Visit:

Theme of the Week: Our theme of the week is 'speed' and my home page
quotes reflect that.

Week Beginning March 3
1) Brush your hair BEFORE bed. This week, get into the good habit of
brushing your hair BEORE bed, as well as when you wake up. Doing so will help
minimize knots and tangles in the morning.
2) Ditch 10...three times. Ditch 10 unnecessary email messages. Ditch 10
unnecessary sheets of paper. Donate or ditch 10 items in your home or office
that you no longer use.
3) Make plans for a spring outing. Whether you want to go away for a
week, a weekend, or one single day, make plans to do something when spring
arrives (it's coming soon on March 20th!) Jot down where, when, what time,
things to do at that destination, places to eat or food to bring, and so on.
Always have something to look forward to on your calendar, and make definite
plans to do it.
'What you do teaches faster, and has a lasting impression, far beyond what you
say.'
