Organizing Clothes to Save Time

By organizing my clothes into two sections, and then subsections, I save a lot of time.

SECTION 1-Casual
SECTION 2-Dressy

Sub-sections for both:
a-Long sleeve
b-Short sleeve

Within the sub-sections, clothes are organized by color:

1a black
1b black

1a brown
1b brown

and so on

GON Reader Letter: Nothing Makes Me Mutter More Than Clutter

Hi Maria,

I love your web site and newsletters, as well as your products. I think I have every single one and am eagerly awaiting your next resource. Thank you. My life is so much better off since I found you online many years ago!

I found this poem online that I thought you'd like, and I knew GON readers would as well, written by Nina Parmenter:

Nothing makes me mutter more than clutter,
It's the very ruination of my day,
My family, no doubt, really LOVE to get stuff out,
But I think they think it puts itself away.

I tell you, I'm not blessed with being domestic -
For tidiness, I'd give myself a six,
But my precious family would each earn themselves a three,
Which all adds up to a house which makes me twitch.

There are ninety-seven items in the kitchen,
Which are not where I intended them to be,
In the lounge there's fifty-four, in the dining room there's more,
In the playroom, there's two hundred, maybe three.

There are pens and bills and helmets on the table,
There are bricks and cups and spanners on the drawers,
And upon the window sill, there's a pile of stuff that will
Have to stay there til I work out what it's for.

In the bedroom, there is very little legroom,
In the hallway there is very little hope,
In the bathroom, so much stuff, there is barely room to guff,
And I don't know how much longer I can cope.

So I've tidied and I've picked up and I've kicked up,
I've ranted til I'm purple in the face,
But as soon as somewhere's clear, there's just one sound I will hear...
The clatter as more clutter takes its place.
Regards,

A Reader Asks, 'How Can I Be Better Organized to Prevent Getting Sick?'

A GON Reader Asks

Here it is...the first week of spring. And I'm stuck in my house because I'm sick...again. This is the third time this year. It's nothing major, like the flu. But it's a bad cold. I'm so tired of coughing and congestion. Luckily, it hasn't transferred to my family members, but these colds are bringing my productivity, this year, way down. Any thoughts on how I could get better organized to prevent getting sick...again and again?

Karen J.
Waukesha, WI

Maria Gracia Responds

Hi Karen,

I feel for you...it's no fun being sick! Here are some thoughts I have for you:

1) See your doctor: I'm assuming you've had a full physical in the past year, correct? If not, definitely do so to rule out any underlying conditions you may not be aware of. Hopefully, you'll get a clean bill of health, but it's my very first recommendation to you.

2) Get your shut eye: I'll tell you this from first-hand knowledge. If I don't get enough sleep more than two nights in a row, I WILL end up with a cold. So, I try not to allow this to happen. How much sleep are you getting? If you're not getting at least 7 to 8 hours every single night, you're likely dealing with a compromised immune system. Get your rest without fail.

3) Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, and mouth. Most folks are not even aware of how often they rub their eyes, swipe their nose, or touch their mouth throughout the day. Every time you do, there's a chance you're transferring germs from your hands into your body. Be very mindful of this...and wash your hands often and well.

4) Check your diet: You are what you eat. Are you filling up on fast food, restaurant food, and/or processed food, or lots of 'white' meals on your plate, like pasta or rice? Your body requires nutrients, vitamins, and minerals from a wide variety of healthy foods. Be sure you're filling up on fresh vegetables and fruits every day. When you fill up your plate, it should look colorful! Take a good-quality multi-vitamin daily as well.

5) Exercise 5 days a week: Are you getting a good variety of exercise in a sufficient amount? Aim for an hour a day, 5 days a week, mixing in both cardio and strength. When possible, exercise outside...in the fresh air and sunshine. Bonus: Your body will be getting Vitamin D, also great for cold-defense, from the sun.

6) Stay hydrated: Proper hydration helps your natural immune system function at a higher level. If you wait until you're thirsty, you're probably already somewhat dehydrated. Sip water throughout the day...and eat foods with a high water content.

7) Decrease your stress: Chronic stress can wreak havoc on your body, lowering your body's natural immune response, and resulting in colds or worse. Pinpoint areas of stress in your life and do what you can to alleviate some of that tension. In addition, take up stress-relieving activities like meditation, Yoga, fishing, or long, peaceful walks.

8) Keep your house clean: How often do you clean? I'm asking because if it's not often enough, your house can be making you sick. Germs lurk everywhere...sinks, counters, toilets, phones, door knobs, remote controls, bed sheets, and towels. Be sure you have a regular cleaning regimen in place... it's amazing what a little bit of daily cleaning (30 minutes) can do to keep your home clean and healthy!

Feel better soon. I hope these healthy-living tips will help you stay healthy and illness-free!
