One Reader's Sunday Schedule
On Sunday, I'm up at 6:00 a.m. I take my shower the night before...I'm a big
believer in the more you do the night before, the less you have to do in the
morning.
As you know, the most important thing in planning anything is to know how long
it takes for you to do what you have to do. Therefore, I know it takes one hour
to get dressed, one hour or so for 'quiet time,' and about one hour or so to
read the 'Word' for that day with a cup of tea and eat something.
Our ride to take us to church usually picks us up about 9:10 or 9:20 a.m.
By the time we get home, it's anywhere from 1 to 2 p.m.
That leaves the rest of the day to rest and handle any small TO DOs, including
checking my schedule for the next week. During the days of the week, I check my
schedule for the next day and then again in the morning.
When I do my laundry on Saturdays, I try very hard to get all the ironing
finished the same day. Otherwise, I finish this up on Sunday.
Thanks Maria, for letting us reply to your newsletters. It makes your GON
web site so much more personable.
This fabulous reader tip was submitted by...
Margaret from Maryland
...and may I add that this Sunday schedule is extra special because Margaret has
been blind for the last 22 years. She gets everything she can get done during
the week, so her Sundays are more relaxed and spiritual.

start a task, then check this out:

A Reader Asks, 'Help With My Messy Car'
A GON Reader Asks
My car is a disaster zone. So, I lease a new car every two years. So, it's
new, but it's always trashed. As I'm looking at it right at this very moment,
there is ketchup on the back seat from my kid's last Happy Meal, three empty
soda cans rolling around on the floor, a sticky mess in the cup holder...
apparently from a juice box, dirt, rock salt, and pebbles on the once-nice
floor mats, and general stuff everywhere (school papers, toys, magazines...you
name it.) I don't have time to clean my car. I barely have time to get dressed,
get the kids to school, and get me to work. Both my husband and I work 12-hour
days. Is it hopeless for us to ever have a decent-looking car?

Maria Gracia Responds
Hi Joliet,
How wonderful life would be with a self-cleaning car. Someday, we may all have
that. In the meantime, it's up to us to maintain our vehicles. Since you and
your husband work 12-hour days and have little time (nor the energy) to put
a whole lot of effort into doing so, here are some thoughts I have for you:
1) No food in the car. If you don't want ketchup stains in your car,
don't take a chance and allow your child to eat ketchup in the car. If your
child requires a 'snack' on long drives, opt for dry foods, like cereal or
pretzels. Stop in rest stops for meals, or have your child eat at home or your
destination.
2) No beverages in the car. The one exception to this is water. Water
does not leave behind a sticky mess, and if it spills, it dries. Use refillable
water bottles, so the empty plastic ones don't end up rolling around on the
car floor.
3) Use rubber mats in bad weather. Right before the first snowy weather
day in winter, my husband and I replace our nice carpeted floor mats for rubber
ones. No, it doesn't look as nice...BUT, they're much easier to clean. We store
our carpeted mats away in the basement, until there's no more chance of snow,
and then swap out the rubber ones for the nicer ones.
4) Corral or relocate the other items. If you like to keep some toys in
the car for the kids, restrict the volume to one box and put all the toys in
this box. Have your kids put their toys back in the box before getting out of
the car. Keep 'a few' magazines, to catch up on while you're parked, in a tote
bag. School papers should not be loose in the car. Bring them in the house to
sort through. Bring whatever doesn't need to be in the car, in the house...and
do this every time you're in the car so the clutter doesn't build. It should
only take 5 minutes to round up a few stray items.
5) Vacuum once a week. Once a week, use a shop vac to vacuum any pebbles
and other debris from the seats and floor.
6) Keep a disposable trash bag in the car. Any trash can immediately be
placed in the bag. Every time you stop to get fuel, empty the car trash at the
gas station.
7) Clean during waiting time. Finally, any time you're parked in the car
and waiting (like when one of your kids is being picked up from soccer practice)
dust the interior of the car. Keep a package of microfiber clothes in the car so
you can do this easily.
This should keep your new car reasonably clean and new-looking!
