Organizing Advice from a Flower
While trimming some plants in my yard this morning, I couldn't help but stop,
now and then, to marvel at all the little green shoots, soon to be flowers,
pushing up through the damp soil in my garden. I began to wonder: How does a
flower know when it's time to reveal itself, to come out of its burrow? And how
can one tiny flower hold the knowledge that tells it when to bud and to blossom,
and when to rest and regroup? What else could this flower know, and what might
she have to teach us about our own lives? I decided to ask her, and this is
what she told me.
What can I, a simple spring flower, possibly have to say about organizing? More
than you might think! Here are some of the things I have learned:
Stand tall so that the sunlight can reach you. Sometimes, though, a little
bit of rain can be a wonderful thing. You need both sunlight and hydration
to be at your most beautiful and healthy. Keep in mind also that the right kind
of nutrients are important, so eat healthfully and make sure you are getting
your vitamins, preferably directly from your food. Watch your posture...standing
tall does great things for your confidence. Be bold and express your beauty in
this world.
Learn to listen to your own body, to learn your own biological rhythms. I
rise when the sun does, show off like crazy all day, and begin to think about
rest when the light begins to fade. I sleep soundly when the sun goes down in
anticipation of shining once again tomorrow.
Just as too many weeds in my garden inhibit my ability to thrive, too much
clutter in your life can be harmful to your growth. You need room to expand
and grow, which you can't do if you are crowded by things that don't benefit
you. Don't stifle yourself with clutter. I do much better when the weeds are
pulled from around me, and so will you.
Honor your roots. While it is good to let go of things that don't serve
you, keep just enough of your photos and mementos to remind you of all of those
who have come before you...people and events that have made your life possible
in this moment. Perhaps like me, you can carry many memories inside you, so
you're not burdened with an excess of mementos in your garden, so to speak.
Graciously accept help from others. No flower, and no human, can do
everything all by herself. You may have heard that those who give, receive. This
is true for all of us. When the honeybee lands on me and then flies to other
flowers, she helps to ensure that flowers keep blooming forever. And the bee? I
give her the ingredients so that she can go back to her hive and make honey. We
all need help from the insects, the birds, gardeners and nurturing friends and
family to create an ecosystem in which we can live, flourish, and help make the
world more beautiful.

Clutter-Busting Resource Available
For super quick details on how you can say goodbye to clutter, visit:

All people have clutter to some degree.
You may have a little bit of clutter sitting around--things that aren't really
serving any purpose, taking up unnecessary space, gathering dust, and causing a
bit of frustration.
Or perhaps you have LOADS of clutter and it's causing your life to be turned
upside down--you can't find things easily, you feel like your home is bursting
at the seams with STUFF, you have to climb over piles and boxes to get to
anything, and you feel overwhelmed and frustrated.
MOST people are somewhere right in the middle of these two situations.
For anyone who just has a little bit of clutter, have no doubt in your mind that
CLUTTER GROWS, and small challenges soon turn into large issues.
BUT, here's something NEW I discovered...
Clutter is sneaky...it doesn't only show up in the pile of shoes you may have in
your closet, the overload of toys in the toy room, the boxes of stuff in the
basement, or the stuffed-to-the-max drawers and closets in your home.
Clutter actually invades your life in FOUR forms...
1. Physical Clutter
2. Paper Clutter
3. Digital Clutter
4. Emotional Clutter
And once it's there, it begins to wreak all sorts of havoc...
In fact, to discover the 12 Ways that Clutter Robs you of a Happier Life

Week Beginning June 2nd
1) See clutter for what it really is. Clutter comes in many forms, but
really lands under one main header: OBSTACLE.
Clutter is an obstacle to us finding things.
Clutter is an obstacle preventing us from getting our TO DOs done.
Clutter is an obstacle keeping us out of reach of our goals and dreams.
Clutter is an obstacle to good health, affecting us both physically and
emotionally.
Clutter is an obstacle to happiness. One can not be truly happy with stress.
Clutter (physical, paper, digital, and emotional) multiplies stress
exponentially.
Clutter is an obstacle that must be removed from our lives, in order for us
to get anywhere worth going.
For the next full week, I'll be focusing on helping you get rid of clutter in
your life...bit by bit. Every day this week, we'll focus on a form of clutter
and removing that obstacle from your life. Stay tuned!
2) Consolidate one category of items in your garage. A big part of
organizing is ensuring you don't have one category of items in many different
places. This week, consolidate a category of items in your garage, such as all
automotive gear (car wax, motor oil, microfiber towels, interior cleaner, car
vacuum), all sporting equipment (baseballs, soccer balls, bats, mitts, bike
helmets) or all gardening gear (rakes, gardening gloves, bush trimmers,
safety glasses, weeding tools).
3) Stow spring and allow summer to emerge. Put away all spring decor
and get your summer decorations out and on display. I love the 'patriotic'
look for this time of year...reds, whites, and blues leading up to the 4th of
July.
'I must have flowers, always, and always.'
