How to Keep Up With Weeds...and Other Annoying Tasks
There are certain jobs around the house that we know need to be done but would
rather pretend don't exist. You know what I mean: Those little jobs that have to
get done but we would rather not have to do. Time to soldier on and tackle those
jobs, hopefully in the least painful way possible.
1) Keeping up with weeds: Having a garden is a great thing, whether it is
for growing vegetables or just a flower garden to help spruce up your
landscaping. Unfortunately, with the beautiful garden inevitably comes pesky
weeds. It is amazing how many strange plants will begin to spring up where you
never really planted them or wanted them. Keeping up with this can be more work
than you bargained for. First off, mulch where and when you can. Mulch prevents
light from getting to the weeds, therefore it makes it much harder for the weeds
to poke out. For the weeds you do get, the best time for weeding is after a rain
when the soil is still damp. Weeds will pull up much easier with less chance of
the plants breaking off and leaving roots in your flower bed that will grow back
later. A quick dose of weed and grass killer can also help to keep the unwanted
weeds from taking over your garden.
2) Cleaning the shower: Most people, me included, hate cleaning the
shower. Scrubbing bubbles or no scrubbing bubbles, it can take a lot of effort
and is never a lot of fun. One trick I've learned is to keep a Magic Eraser (I
use the 'bath' version) in the shower. I keep it within reach and, while my
conditioner is working, I scrub a small area of the shower that needs it...the
walls, the floor, etc. Upon exiting, I squeegee the walls and door, and then use
one of those leave-on shower sprays and mist down the whole interior. This has
definitely cut down on my shower cleaning time and makes scrubbing the shower
less tedious of a task.
3) Eliminating the paper mountain: Nothing seems to accumulate faster
than paper. Newspapers, magazines, mail, and receipts can go from a molehill to
a mountain faster than you can keep up. The best way to eliminate this paper is
be proactive. If you have read the paper, get it to the recycling bin. When you
grab the mail from the mailbox immediately weed out any junk mail and toss in
the recycling as well. Look at any receipts you have lying around and keep only
the ones you may need later and then put in a specific place. Don't hang on to
magazines when you are through reading them. There will always be more to take
their place. Either recycle those or donate to someone else who can enjoy them.
Remember...paper shouldn't be taking up valuable real estate on your counter
or kitchen/dining room table.
4) Cleaning the microwave: No matter how careful we are, something
explodes in the microwave now and then. The mess it leaves behind can be less
than fun to remove. I have found a super easy way to keep ahead of the stuck on
food. Once a week or so, I stick a microwave safe bowl of water in my microwave
and then 'cook' for around five minutes. The steam that is produced by doing
this coats the inside of the appliance and makes it super easy to wipe away any
and all stuck on messes that have accumulated. This is the fastest, cheapest way
I have found to keep the microwave clean and mess free. There is very little
elbow grease involved and it works like an absolute charm.

Everyone gets 24 hours in each day. Because our time is so precious, and because
it vanishes so quickly, it's vitally important to use that time well.
What do you get accomplished each day?
If the answer is, 'next to nothing', or 'not nearly as much as I would like,'
then it's definitely worth it to take a look at what's on your TO DO list, and
if those items are helping you get to where you want to be.
Don't confuse activity with real accomplishments. Twiddling your thumbs is
activity, but it's not going to get you anywhere fast.
In light of this, I've recently discovered an incredible tool that will help you
get more done than you've ever imagined.
It's called The Action Machine, my husband and I BOTH use it, AND we highly
recommend it to anyone who wants to make the most of his or her day. Visit:

year...a great time for a new start. Follow our July 2018 Organizing Checklist
throughout the whole month

Week Beginning July 7
1) Tidy your laundry room. Consolidate detergent, bleach, dryer sheets,
and other laundry supplies in one area. When supplies are in one place, you'll
be able to see what you have before you purchase more. Catch up with laundry. Do
as many wash/dry loads as it takes. Throw away dryer lint and other debris. You
may want to add a small basket to corral any clean, stray socks that have lost
their mates, or a coin cup for loose change found in pockets. While you're in
the laundry room, scrub any gunk that has accumulated in the washer. By the way,
I use the side of an old chopstick to gently scrape out any softener gunk that
has accumulated in the softener dispenser.
2) Inspect, and clean or replace your bath rug and shower mat. I actually
replaced both of these in my guest bathroom a few weeks ago. Choose one of your
home's bathrooms and do an inspection of both your bath rug and shower mat. In
some cases, a simple cleaning will do. For the shower mat, put on rubber gloves,
fill your bathtub with warm water and two cups of chlorine bleach, and scrub the
mat with a clean brush. Then drain the tub, rinse the mat, and allow the mat to
dry. For the bath rug, most made with synthetic fibers can be put in the washing
machine, along with the bath towels. Wash on the cold setting. Hang dry or
tumble dry on the lowest heat setting. If your bath rug and shower mat have seen
better days, replace them this week.
3) Replenish home office supplies. Every home needs a supply of home
office items, like pens, highlighters, sticky notes, postage stamps, envelopes,
etc. First, gather all of your office supplies in one area (don't forget to
check your junk drawer). Then, sort each item so all pens are together, all
erasers are together, etc. Be sure to donate your surplus. Find a home for the
office supplies you're keeping, like a desk drawer or shelf. Make use of office
organizers or other storage solutions to keep supplies sorted, such as mason
jars. Make a list of needed items and pick them up on your next shopping trip,
or online.
'Do stuff. Be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration's shove or
society's kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It's all about paying attention.
Attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. Stay
eager.'
