We Asked, 'What Holidays Do You Decorate For?'
GON Readers Responded...
We recently asked GON Readers, 'What holidays do you decorate for?' Here are
the results...
30% Christmas
16% Halloween
16% Thanksgiving
13% Easter
9% All holidays
7% 4th of July
6% Valentine's Day
3% I don't decorate for any holiday
It probably doesn't surprise you to see that a huge percent of holiday
decorating takes place between Halloween and Christmas.
There are two closets in my basement where we store all of our holiday decor. I
go a little nuts for Christmas, so those decorations are taking up seven storage
tubs, stacked one on top of the other. I have each of them labeled on the side
of the box so I can see all the labels when I open the closet:
Christmas-Fireplace Mantel
Christmas-Ornaments
Christmas-Tree Lights
Christmas-Village, etc.
In doing so, when the season rolls around, we can decorate a little bit at a
time, without having to rummage through bunches of containers to find what we
need.
I then have one storage tub per other holiday...one for Halloween, one for
Easter, and so on. I stack them in the order of the calendar year, so the
container I need is always easily accessible.
Summer is actually a very good time of the year to get your holiday decor
organized. Because we're not in a major holiday season at the moment, if you do
it now, you'll have plenty of time to inventory what you have...and determine
what you no longer need. Donate what you can to your favorite local charity this
week, so those looking for holiday decor will find it when they are shopping
in thrift stores and such for fall/winter holidays.
