No More Stuff on the Kitchen Table

Thinking outside the box, we never used the kitchen table, except to pile high with everything under the sun. We felt like the norm was to have a table to eat on, but that has only happened three times in our 27 years of marriage. We live in a tiny house, so cabinet and drawer space was precious. We decided to remove the table and purchased an antique buffet at a garage sale. It was grungy. So we cleaned it up, lined the drawers and quadrupled our drawer space. We also had some plastic drawers underneath and added a hook to the back side which faces the sink for a dish towel. It really helped us organize more! People are curious where our table is, but we've always used TV trays to eat on so we did what worked for US and our casual lifestyle.

How I Conquered the Slamming Doors Problem

I'm a 'seasoned' mom. My girls are all grown and now bringing babies into the family. When they were younger, however, we had a strict no-door slamming rule. To be sure it was adhered to, each girl was given a warning and a reminder that the door would be removed for two weeks if the door slammed again. Two strikes and the door lives in the garage for two weeks. Each girl had their door removed for two weeks and it was never a problem for them (or me) ever again. A bit of consequential punishment was a good way to remind them that doors are not for slamming. Hope this helps someone.
