Inspirations to Declutter

What inspires you to declutter and organize? For a client of mine, recently, it was having someone from the pest control company come. She was mortified when he looked at some of her kitchen cabinets and her pantry. She told me she silently told herself she would never let him see so much of a mess again, ever.

It's funny how suddenly seeing a space when a stranger views it causes us to see the space with their eyes, or at least what we imagine their eyes perceive. The fellow from the pest control company has probably seen much, much worse.

For most of us, the thought of company, particularly someone who will stay overnight or a few days, sends us into crazy-clean or clean-out mode. Suddenly the guest room where extra clothes, office supplies, and decorative items get stored needs to be cleared out, We want the room to be fresh and pristine. But even just dinner guests can send us into a kitchen-cleaning frenzy, even when not really needed.

At some point in our lives, we may find ourselves cleaning out the house of our parents or other relatives who have died. No matter how little they seemed to have, it is always a big job. Decisions must be made. Where should this go, who should this go to, does this have value, what remembrance would we like to keep, how do we get the house ready for sale? Most who have ever done this vow to never do the same to anyone else...although I do have one friend who, in jest, says facetiously it will be her final revenge for the stunts her children put her through. (Smile.)

Of course, there can be simpler inspirations. Seeing a magazine article, for instance, can inspire someone, though not usually with quite the same urgency as the threat of a stranger stopping in.

No matter the source, the inspiration to declutter and/or clean is good. We can use it, even when the inspiration (threat) is not imminent. Sometimes when I clean out an area, I imagine the end result...how wonderful it's going to look (and how great I'm going to feel) when it's done.

Occasionally, we declutter and organize for other reasons. Stress does it for some of us. When things are going on that we cannot control, it helps to clean up or organize something, not usually a big project, but maybe a drawer or two or the pantry. Organizing and decluttering can create a sense of control when other parts of our lives may be in disorder.

This week, see if you can identify things that trigger your urge to declutter. Try to use one of those prompts to initiate an organizing project you have been delaying. It may be exactly what you needed to get you going.

The Secret to Making Your Dog's Problem Behaviors Disappear

No matter what your dog's problem behavior is, be it jumping, peeing inappropriately, aggression, pulling on the leash...or whatever, there is ONE SOLUTION that can help STOP this problem now.

The sad fact is, most dog trainers miss this solution entirely. They give you cookie cutting training programs. They use outdated and `mean' dominance techniques. Or worse yet, they have no qualifications and are complete phonies. So what's the answer to stopping your dog's behavior problems? In 5 simple words...

Discovering your dog's hidden intelligence.

Let me explain. More intelligent dogs are better behaved. A more intelligent dog takes commands easier and understands what you need from them. The good news is, no matter how clever you think your dog is, you can unlock their hidden intelligence quickly and easily.

Don't waste a second longer coping with problem behaviors you don't need to be dealing with. Visit this link to learn more about Brain Training for Dogs:
