This Could Be a Safety Hazard

Maria,

I know that you write to readers of all stages and ages. On August 30th, I decided to empty out my closet in my bedroom, donate some items, and re-organize everything to make room for incoming Christmas packages. I expected to be home alone for the entire day. I have a beautiful and excellent-built step ladder.

Long story short, after clearing two complete shelves, I was coming down the ladder and missed a step. I fell backward, shattered my knee and fractured my tibia and fibula. I had surgery two days later and ended up in a rehab facility.

I have been told that I will not be allowed to put any weight on the broken leg for three months. I am 72, but for anyone, this is a life-changing injury, not only for yourself, but also for all whose lives are also altered to care for you.

You become dependent, rather than independent. Since this happened to me, I have learned that at least one other friend fell off of a ladder while cleaning the top of her refrigerator. Fortunately, for her, she did not break any bones.

I would say that the average person does not think through everything they're doing when using a ladder. I would suggest that no one of any age use a ladder in their home if they are at home alone. I'm hoping that you will address safety matters along with all the extra organizing information we all need.

Have a blessed week,

Ronnie Ruth Retzloff

Note from Maria Gracia

Ronnie,

I am terribly sorry to hear about your injury and hope you're recovering. Please write to me with an update on your condition.

Yes, I whole-heartedly agree. Being on a ladder at home (or even standing on a sturdy chair), when nobody else is around to 'spot you' is never a good idea...indoors or outdoors.

I appreciate you sharing your truly unfortunate story with our GON readers. It just may prevent another serious fall from occurring. Hugs to you!

Maria

Brain Training for Dogs
Is the Secret to Making
Your Dog's Problem Behaviors Disappear

GON Readers LOVED this so much...
That We're Extending the Original Special Offer
Until Friday, October 12th!

No matter what your dog's problem behavior is, be it jumping, peeing inappropriately, aggression, pulling on the leash...or whatever, there is ONE SOLUTION that can help STOP this problem now.

The sad fact is, most dog trainers miss this solution entirely. They give you cookie cutting training programs. They use outdated and `mean' dominance techniques. Or worse yet, they have no qualifications and are complete phonies. So what's the answer to stopping your dog's behavior problems? In 5 simple words...

Discovering your dog's hidden intelligence.

Let me explain. More intelligent dogs are better behaved. A more intelligent dog takes commands easier and understands what you need from them. The good news is, no matter how clever you think your dog is, you can unlock their hidden intelligence quickly and easily.

Don't waste a second longer coping with problem behaviors you don't need to be dealing with. Visit this link to learn more about Brain Training for Dogs:
