  TO DO This Week

TO DO This Week

___ 1. Fall back: For many areas, Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on November 4th...which means we're getting an extra hour of sleep, unless you live in the one or two states that no longer change time. Be sure you set your clocks BACK one hour if you're in an area that still does so. The main advantage of changing clocks in the fall is to give us more light in the morning...which helps us wake up. Personally, I'm looking forward to it...it's tough waking up in the morning when it's as dark as midnight. The light also makes for more visibility during early morning fall/winter commuting, resulting in safer conditions.

___ 2. Exercise your right to vote: Tuesday, November 6th is Election Day in the United States for the 2018 midterm elections. There are multiple Senate, House, Governor, and Assembly seats up for grabs, as well as local positions and referendums. Don't forget to get to the polls if you haven't already submitted an absentee ballot.

___ 3. Weed out non-perishable foods: Grab an empty cardboard box. Then, take 20 minutes to go through your pantry, food cabinets, and food shelves (maybe your basement as well)...wherever you store non-perishable food. Weed out anything that has gone bad (stale, lost its flavor, gone rancid, etc.) or that you're definitely not going to eat. If it's still good, donate it to a food pantry. If it's not, pitch it. No sense in taking up shelf space with something you and other family members are not going to consume. Note: Not all non- perishables last forever. Many can be compromised by not closing a box properly, from too much light, or from too much humidity. While some un-opened foods can last for 30 years or more (apparantly, Twinkies can), some only have a shelf life of a year or two.
