Top 10 Simple Ways to Boost Your Productivity
(...Continued from yesterday)
Yesterday, I focused on 5 ways to help you work smarter, not harder...and boost
your productivity. Here are the next 5 ideas:
6. Delete read email. Don't leave a ton of email in your inbox. It's
overwhelming, easy to miss something important, and is very time-consuming to
search through. Delete email once you’ve read it AND delete everything you don’t
want or need. Important details you need? Save them in a folder or jot them down
in your planner. This way, your inbox will stay totally clear and you'll have a
much better chance of having a productive day.
7. Don’t multitask with important TO DOs. It’s easy to think that
multitasking will help you get more done in the same amount of time, BUT WHEN
you're working on something important, it’s actually better to focus on ONE
thing until you complete it, or at least the portion you wanted to complete.
While it's OK and encouraged to multi-task more mindless tasks (like watching TV
while you're getting some ironing done), some tasks require more focus in order
to make headway.
8. Cut out distractions. Close your door, put your phone down, turn off
the TV..., you get the idea. Removing noise and other distractions will help you
focus on the job at hand and get it done sooner...and with less errors.
9. Identify your projects that can be done bit by bit. For instance, maybe
you have thousands of unnecessary files on your computer hard drive that you've
been meaning to plow through and delete. Rather than trying to do this all in
one day...which can take hours...commit to looking at and deleting 10
unnecessary files a day (probably 5 minutes or less). No, the job won't be done
today, BUT eventually, the job WILL be done...without it being a huge
infringement on your day.
10. Eat well, exercise, sleep. Productivity can be greatly affected by
the foods you're eating or not eating, whether or not you keep your body movin'
and groovin', and by how much or how little sleep you're getting. Be cognizant
of what your body is telling you and 'do your body good.' It's very tough to be
productive on the outside when you aren't giving yourself a fighting chance on
the inside.
