____ 1. Trade out all of the toothbrushes in your home: As we are making our way through cold and flu season, it's a good idea to try and stay one step ahead of the germs. Trade out all of the toothbrushes (or if you have an electric model, toothbrush heads) in your home.

____ 2. Test your carbon monoxide detectors: The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that every home that has a fuel burning appliance of ANY kind should be equipped with at least one carbon monoxide detector. This becomes even more important as many of us are using our furnaces at this time of year. Push the test button on your CO detectors at least once a month to make sure they are functioning properly. For some of us, as snow begins to pile up outside, it can potentially block outside vents that need to be clear. Testing your CO detectors regularly can help keep you and your loved ones safe.

____ 3. Give the kitchen a wipe-down: Take a few minutes to take EVERYTHING off of your kitchen counters and wipe down all surfaces with an antibacterial cleaner. Get into the corners that tend to get neglected as well as the areas that are typically covered with other items. Clean off any appliances, utensil holders, etc. that you took off the countertops before returning them to their appropriate homes.
