Feeling Accomplished...We All Need it
While skimming through my Facebook feed the other day, my friend, Cassie Lee,
posted this message:
Making the bed makes me feel accomplished, like I'm saying, 'Not today,
winter!'
Her status update was cute...and oh-so-true. Feeling accomplished sets the tone
for a productive, happy day...and ends the day on a wonderful note.
Here are 10 other ways you can give yourself that feeling of accomplishment:
1. Clear out your email inbox. Whether you have one or two messages, or
hundreds, get your email inbox cleared out...or at least to a reasonable number.
Remember...your 'delete key' is your friend.
2. Make your bucket list for the new year. Get started on one of those
items today...so you're ahead of the game when 2019 rolls around.
3. Wake up and clean something in your house. It doesn't matter if it's
the kitchen counter, a shelf in your closet, or streaks on your mirror. Getting
something done in the morning, first thing, is a great feeling.
4. Schedule a do-able goal each day, and then do it at a specified time.
Your goal could be as simple as giving someone a compliment, reading one page in
a book, or going for a walk. Do it at the same time every day...and revel in 'a
goal met' each time.
5. Plan ahead. If you have to get a lot done, don't leave getting those
things done up to chance. Plan what you're going to do, at the time you plan to
do them. Look at your plan throughout the day and tackle each item one by one.
6. Don't give yourself too much. One way to NOT feel accomplished is to
give yourself hundreds of things to do and make it nearly impossible for you to
zero in on any one thing.
7. Decide what you're going to do tomorrow, the day before. Rather than
waking up and wasting time wondering what you should do, plan your TO DOs the
night before. When you wake up, you can get started immediately.
8. No accomplishment is too small. So many people, who accomplish tons in
a given day, can still feel they didn't get much done. Start writing down
everything you started and completed...getting dressed and ready for work,
taking the dog out for a walk, meditating during your morning coffee, making
your grocery list, driving to work...and so on. Give yourself credit where
credit is due.
9. Start a new project. If you have a lot of projects on the back-burner,
it can cause you to feel 'behind.' Start a new project today...and commit to
working on it for 15 minutes a day until it's done. Yes, it will be fun when
it's all done...but celebrate every 15 minutes that gets you closer to that
goal.
10. Reward yourself in between. As you finish each TO DO, give yourself
an appropriate reward. For instance, getting a 20-minute cleaning task done
earns you 10 minutes of reading a story in your favorite magazine. Keep going
back and forth...task - reward - task - reward...and you'll end the day feeling
accomplished AND feeling great that you did a whole bunch of nice things for
YOU!
