Organized Strategies for When Life is Busy
Has it been a challenge for you to stay organized throughout this holiday
season? If yes, don't sweat it. Not only did you have your usual everyday duties
and commitments. but on top of those TO DOs, you may have been entertaining,
buying and wrapping gifts, writing cards, decorating, attending social events.
Let's face it. The holiday season is a busy time of the year...and it can be
overwhelming to keep on top of it all.
Now that we've reached Christmas Eve, perhaps you're able to slow down a bit. Or
maybe, because the new year is on the horizon, you're feeling more frantic than
ever. Here are a few ideas that can help you finish off 2018 feeling
organized...and that you can use as strategies no matter when life is busy and
feeling a bit chaotic.
1) Back to basics. Having basic routines is essential for maintaining
your sanity. As much as possible, try to keep to the routines you already have
in place. A regular bedtime and wake time, quick and healthy meals, a simple
exercise routine, and your morning routine for getting everyone fed, dressed and
out the door on time...all of these will keep at least a minimum of structure in
your day. Even with everything else that may be going on, if you can keep to the
basics, you'll have much more energy and focus to deal with all the rest.
2) If there are other people living home, enlist their help. If you live
alone, you have to tackle your TO DOs alone...unless you're hiring outside help
or have a kind soul assisting in some way. But if you have other people living
home (your better half, kids, or a live-in relative or friend), enlist their
help. It's much easier to keep surfaces clean, get the house picked up, and
tackle the chores when others are sharing the workload. Remember the old saying,
'Many hands make light work.'
3) Set the tone. Begin each day on an organized note...as soon as you
wake up. A few minutes of meditation, reading a short inspirational article, or
jotting a few thoughts down in a journal can help keep you grounded and focused
all day...and sets the perfect tone for a productive day ahead.
4) Have a 4-plan. Either in the morning (or preferably) the night before,
think of the 4 most important things you want to accomplish that day--no more
than 4--and write them down. Then, focus on these four things...and work on them
one by one, granting yourself a small, appropriate reward (a bit of reading
time, perhaps?), as you complete each. After they're all done, you can use any
leftover time to take care of smaller TO DOs if you wish...or to simply relax
and celebrate your accomplishments.
Finally, I'd like to wish you and your family a beautiful Christmas Eve. However
or wherever you may be celebrating, I hope you're able to find time for many
joyful moments and peaceful, quiet reflection as well.
P.S. In case you want to watch Santa's journey, here's the link my family
uses every year. It's just one of the fun activities we enjoy on Christmas Eve:
