___ 1. Redecorating in January: Once all the Christmas decorations are
put away for the season, I dust, clean, and vacuum these areas well...and then I
redecorate a bit. I like doing this because the house can seem a bit stark once
the trees, lights, Christmas village, etc. are stowed away. Sometimes I'll swap
out something I have on display for a different decorative item in the
'rotation' box and display that for a bit. Other times I'll grab something
decorative from another room and give it a new home for the remainder of winter.
Very occasionally, I'll buy something new to display...and donate something I've
had for awhile that is no longer bringing me joy.
___ 2. The peace and quiet of a library. Every now and then, I love
stealing away to a library...either the local one in my town or the one located
in an area I may be visiting. While I'm typically a very social person, the
library offers quiet seclusion when needed...a place to bring my laptop and get
some focused work done, or to have an hour of uninterrupted reading time, or
perhaps even to simply meditate and clear my mind. In fact, I recently found
myself at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee and was waiting for my husband who
had some appointments. While there, I located the library (right in the medical
center) and spent my waiting time there...much nicer than the typical waiting
room, plenty of cubicles where I was able to plug in my laptop and work, and I
was surrounded by tons of wonderful books.
___ 3. The Confectioner's Tale. I just finished reading this book for
book chat and it was so enjoyable...one of those 'can't put down' reads. The
story takes place in 1909 in Paris. A young man, with little more than the shirt
on his back, ends up in a forbidden love affair with the daughter of a
successful patisserie owner. Eighty years later, a student finds a hidden
photograph of her grandfather, with a note scribbled on the back of it that
says, 'forgive me.' Both of these stories are related, intertwine beautifully
throughout the book, and conclude with a surprise ending. I highly recommend
this book. For details, visit:
