Toxic Situations Affect Your Happiness, Productivity, and Emotional Well-Being
Last week, one of my friends posted this as her Facebook status...
'Apparently someone I work with doesn't want anyone to come to my birthday
party. Today I found the ripped up pieces of the invitation shoved into my
locker. I don't care if you don't like me and don't want to come, but ripping it
up? Really?'
Sigh.
My reply, 'Sounds like an episode of Glee. Release it from your mind. It's not
worth a second of your time.'
And honestly, I truly believe that. How much time do we really want to invest
in toxic situations? For me, that would add up to zero time. In my mind, do your
very best to avoid toxic life situations at all costs. They do nothing more
than destroy your confidence and self-worth and/or can multiply negativity
exponentially causing you undo stress and frustration in your life.
These situations can happen with both personal relationships...and work
relationships (like with my friend). Try to recognize the signs of a toxic
situation before it grows. Here are four of the big ones:
1. Selfishness: Everything a person is doing is for his or her own
benefit and nobody else's.
2. Trash talking: This is a biggie. Don't hang out with folks who are
always gossiping about others...and don't involve yourself in it.
3. Pin sticking: Picture a voodoo doll and you'll know what I mean. Every
time somebody outwardly offends someone, it's like a pin being stuck in them.
Five criticisms equals five pins. Ten criticisms equals ten pins. Ouch. Even
what many folks consider to be 'little jabs' can turn out to be very toxic, very
quickly.
4. Negativity: Sure, everyone complains now and then. But it's the never-
ending complaining (never coupled with solutions) that you'll want to steer
clear of. It's contagious.
When it comes to getting organized, most people think of piles of paper on the
kitchen table or a basement lacking storage. The reality, however, is that
getting organized applies to every area of your life, including releasing
yourself from toxic situations that may be greatly affecting your happiness,
productivity, and emotional well-being.
Remember, each and every person in your life either moves you forward or holds
you back; either helps you or hurts you. One of the first steps in this release
from toxic situations is acknowledging and pinpointing the sources. Only then
can you begin getting organized so you can remove yourself from any potential
poison in your life.

Everyone gets 24 hours in each day. Because our time is so precious, and because
it vanishes so quickly, it's vitally important to use that time well.
What do you get accomplished each day?
If the answer is, 'next to nothing', or 'not nearly as much as I would like,'
then it's definitely worth it to take a look at what's on your TO DO list, and
decide if those items are helping you get to where you want to be.
Don't confuse activity with real accomplishments. Twiddling your thumbs is
activity, but it's not going to get you anywhere fast.
In light of this, there's an incredible tool I wanted to share with you. It will
help you get more done than you've ever imagined. It's called The Action
Machine. In fact, my husband and I BOTH use it, AND we highly recommend it to
anyone who wants to make the most of his or her day. Visit:

'Yes, the people around us can be insensitive, narcissistic, toxic, and
