Making Bill Paying a Bit Easier
While my husband and I pay our bills online, we prefer to receive paper
invoices/statements in the regular mail, as opposed to getting them all emailed
to us or having payments deducted automatically.
1. Email may not get through or get lost in the slew of other email messages
we receive.
2. We prefer to review our bills for accuracy before the amount is deducted from
our accounts.
3. In handling bills this way, we have a paper trail we can provide to our
accountant when applicable.
To make the bill expiration dates as clear as day, as soon as I receive a bill
in the mail, I recycle anything I don't need (outer envelope, advertising,
etc.). Then, I put a 3 x 3 inch sticky note on the bill (being sure not to
cover the company name) and write the expiration date on the sticky note...big,
with a thick black Sharpie.
All of the bills due are then kept on my desk, stacked in the order they're due
(the one that's due the soonest gets put on top), and paid prior to the due date
accordingly.
