Try Something Different

We all have our own way of doing things. Whether it's our system of doing the laundry, the way in which we plan our budgets, or the way we organize our homes, we inevitably have own own unique way of getting the jobs done. We all tend to do what works for us.

But have you ever considered that the way in which you are doing things may NOT be the best way of doing things? What if changing up the way you do things could make you accomplish them faster or with less effort being put in? Would you be willing to make the change?

One example that comes to mind for me involves the way that I pay my bills. There was a time when all, and I mean ALL, of my monthly bills came to me via snail mail. Every month I would collect the bills as they arrived in the mail and store them in a specific place in my kitchen. Eventually, then I would sit down with my pen and checkbook and write paper checks out for all of the billing statements that I had accumulated. I would then seal them up in envelopes, affix a stamp on each one, and then deliver them to the post office to be mailed. This system actually worked. I got all of the checks written out and sent off...and my bills got paid.

So, why switch up what I was doing?

The best reason is that I discovered a better, more efficient way to reach the same end result of getting my bills paid on time: online billing. I slowly began switching to online billing for my monthly expenses. This eliminated the paper that was coming into my home. I was then able to pay the bills without having to take the time to write a paper check out. I saved myself the trouble of buying stamps and having to drop the payments off at the post office. Bills were credited to my account much more quickly as I was eliminating the time it spent getting my checks from point A to point B.

The best part was that once my financial information was securely stored with the creditors, I could get my bills paid in literally seconds. My old way of paying bills did work. It just turns out that it was not the most efficient way of getting the job done.

The same concept can apply to anything that we need to accomplish. Maybe you ALWAYS grocery shop on Saturdays. Saturday works for you. You have the time and you get the job done. But what about going midweek instead? Stores are generally less busy midweek and you may find that you can get in and out much faster than when you go on a busy weekend day. The aisles will be less crowded, the checkout lines will be shorter and you may find that shopping at this time of the week is generally less hectic and more relaxing than when you go on a Saturday morning.

Or, maybe you want to get really fancy and skip the trip to the supermarket all together, in place of online shopping.

Just because you've always done something one way does not necessarily mean that that is the best way of doing it. Try changing things up a bit. Be open to alternative ways of doing things. You may just discover that a better way of getting things done is just a few changes away!

P.S. I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on this concept and how YOU changed things up in your life for the better. So, if you have a story that applies, reply to this newsletter and let me know. I'd love to share it with my readers!
