Declutter Your Diet
Have you noticed that decluttering seems to be have become a national pastime?
New books on the subject seem to appear every day, and a new reality show on
tidying has struck a collective nerve and fanned the decluttering flames even
higher. Thrift stores and consignment shops are reporting record numbers of
donations as we seek to simplify our lives by scaling down our possessions. We
are decluttering our kitchens, our closets, our paperwork, our digital lives.
Nothing seems to be escaping the frenzy to get rid of stuff.
Or is it? Have you thought about decluttering your diet lately? What we allow
into our bodies seems at least as important as what we allow into our homes, our
garages, and our inboxes. We may have to rethink our criteria in making our
choices, because a pint of Ben and Jerry's can spark joy in many of us, and a
roasting pan full of saucy spareribs may contribute to a joyful spouse.
We can ask ourselves: Does it contribute to a happy, healthy body? Does it spark
wellness? If not, maybe it's time for a diet decluttering session. That doesn't
mean nothing but celery and carrots and no ice cream or chocolate. I'd be the
last one to say never to dark chocolate sea salt caramels. Yum.
Nevertheless, a little decluttering couldn't hurt, and a healthy, energetic self
can go a long way toward a more joyful life. Here are some tips to get started
without too much pain or deprivation:
1. When shopping, concentrate on the perimeter of the supermarket. This
is where you'll often find the most healthful choices. As much as possible, base
your meals on whole, natural, unprocessed foods. Lean meats and fish, whole
grains, dairy products, fresh fruits, and fresh vegetables are often found at
the perimeter of the store. Frozen fruits and vegetables are great choices as
well. The interior aisles are often where you will find the not so-healthy-choices.
2. Ditch the heavy sauces in favor of herbs, spices and flavored vinegars.
There are so many ways to perk up our meats, fish, and vegetables in healthful
and delicious ways. Have fun and think creatively.
3. Say goodbye to added sugar. Eat your foods rather than drink them.
Sodas are laden with sugar and are often blamed in part for childhood obesity.
Even fruit juices, which we think of as good for us, are heavy with sugar,
albeit natural, so eat your oranges, grapefruits, and grapes rather than drink
their juice. Most breakfast cereals are sugar-filled. Try oatmeal with nuts and
berries instead...you can even mix it up the night before.
4. Learn to love water. Add a wedge of lemon or lime to make it more
interesting. Swap coffee for green or herbal tea. If the idea of giving up that
morning cup of joe is too painful, by all means enjoy it. Then switch to tea or
hot water with lemon for succeeding cups.
5. Go meatless a few times a week. Consuming a plant-based diet can
benefit you AND the environment. How it benefits you: Plant-based diets are tied
to a lower risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, cancer, and
chronic diseases. How it benefits the environment: According to the Food and
Agricultural Organization, livestock was estimated to contribute to 14.5 percent
of global human-caused greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). So why not do something
good for yourself and the environment by going meatless one, two, or more
days each week?
By thinking of improving our diet as decluttering, we can be more aware of
making better choices. We can choose fresh, healthful foods whenever possible
and let go of some of the sugar-filled, fat-filled, empty calorie foods.
Just as your home feels lighter after decluttering, your body will feel lighter
too.

Apple vs. Pear
Do This for a Tighter Tummy
and Slimmer Thighs
Is it really possible to re-shape a woman's body at any age? And WITHOUT
starving yourself to cut calories? Or killing yourself in the gym to burn more?
Fortunately, yes. And it involves hormones. Hormones can send calories to your
hips, butt and thighs - the PEAR shape. Or to your tummy - the APPLE shape. Or
to BOTH areas - the bloated SODA CAN shape.
However, a healthier, more comfortable hourglass shape is possible with the
RIGHT mix of hormones. Just try doing this. Visit:
