How I Solved a Sticky Mess
I went to an all-day fitness event a few weeks ago, and was asked to stick a
nametag on my shirt, which I reluctantly did.
I was really tired when I arrived home afterwards, and I totally forgot about
the nametag. I tossed the shirt in the washer...and the dryer. Only when I was
folding clothes afterwards did I realize I never removed the label from my
shirt, and all the sticky residue was not only stuck on the shirt, but was a
baked-in, gooey mess. Luckily, none of the other clothes in the washer were
affected.
I really like this shirt, so I had to salvage it. First, I put the shirt in the
freezer overnight, and in the morning, scraped off as much of the gooey mess as
possible with the edge of a spoon.
I rubbed it with a microfiber cloth and some Dawn dish soap...and soaked the
shirt in warm water for 20 minutes.
I laundered the shirt in the washing machine with detergent...and while most of
the sticky residue was gone, it still felt a big tacky.
I then laid the shirt on my kitchen counter and poured some vegetable oil
on the area...and scrubbed it lightly with an old toothbrush.
I finally relaundered it in the washing machine with detergent...and thankfully,
it was as good as new.
I wanted to share what I did in case you're ever in a sticky mess of your
very own.
This also reminds me to never, never again stick a sticky label on my shirt.
Carrying a few safety pins in my purse in the future will solve this. I can
still use the name tag, but leave the backing on the sticker and pin it on
instead.
