Patience and Support is Key With Organizing
Dear Maria,
I have been enjoying your newsletter for a few years now. I want to share with
you how things have changed in my home in the past year or so. We purchased an
old house 15+ years ago. My husband has been redoing it, bit by bit, so we had
accumulated stuff to help in this work. Our garage had become so stuffed full
of things that we could not walk from the door leading into the house to the
doors that open to the outside. This made the garage an unusable space for
doing anything.
Well, after my husband and I have suffered some serious health issues, it has
become easier to let go of things. My husband cleaned out the garage this year
hauling off, giving to others, and preparing some things to sell at a yard sale.
He also built us two work benches...one for my projects and one for his. I
thought this was a great thing to get accomplished, but he decided to clean out
a small shed that still had a lot of stuff from the previous owners in it as
well as the basement and coal room of the house.
He inspired me, the one that usually wants stuff cleaned out and organized, to
go through the attic space where I keep off-season decor and other items that
need to be kept dry. I organized a lot of the stuff in the attic into plastic
bins and labeled them and thinned out my decorations, since I really no longer
feel like putting so much time and effort into getting everything out and then
putting it all away a short time later.
So I want to encourage anyone with a spouse that does not do things in the way
that you want them done, or in the time that you want it done, to be patient and
supportive when that spouse does make any effort to clean and organize. My
husband went about things totally different than I would have with the garage,
it was hard not to nag him about how he did things, but the end result was even
better than I had hoped. He wants to get rid of the rest of the stuff even more
than I do now. He is looking forward to having even more available space to
organize the remaining things into.
Thanks, Maria, for all your helpful tips and ideas for having a more organized
life, so that we can enjoy time for other things.

If you love custom furniture, shelves
and accessories made of wood...
And if you or your spouse
like creating with wood...
You will LOVE this resource...
Ted's Woodworking Plans...
16,000 plans, plus bonuses
to create gorgeous pieces out of wood
So many of our readers are RAVING about this resource, but it's one of my
last reminders, so don't forget to check it out within the next 24 hours...
It's amazing what you can make out of wood, for a fraction of what it would cost
in a store. Plus, there's something truly special when you have something in
your home that was made with your own hands...or the hands of someone in your
family.
Whether you've been wanting your own custom set of Adirondack chairs, a new
barn, a bird house, coat rack, chest, coffee table, doll house, deck, dresser,
fence, guitar, hutch, mailbox, planter, play house, shelves, stool, tray, toy,
wishing well, or (you fill in the blank!), you'll find STEP-BY-STEP
instructions, photos, tutorials, and diagrams to make every project laughably
easy.
Ted's collection of plans are some of the best I've seen. If you're a
woodworker, you really don't want to miss out on this. No matter what, at least
have a peek. For details, visit:
