____ 1. Taking a different route. When I have a little more time in my schedule, I like to take the scenic route...or that road that I think will connect, but just might not. It has led me to find places I wouldn't have otherwise discovered. I find cut-throughs I didn't know existed. I've also discovered very beautiful patches of wildflowers or cute little shops. I usually give myself that extra time to get somewhere, so this allows me to wander a bit if I'm too early to show up to an appointment or the place doesn't open yet.

____ 2. Thinking through what I'm cooking for the week's dinners...and getting organized to make sure it happens. Every week, I meal-plan by isolating the recipes I plan to make for dinner. On one sheet of paper, I write the recipe names down (along with side dishes) and indicate where the recipe is (in a particular cookbook, written/printed out, or on the Web), as well as if that recipe has a special requirement (defrost an ingredient the night before, etc.) To ensure the recipes are easily accessible, if the recipes are in a cookbook, I have the cookbook on the kitchen counter and the page held with a bookmark. If it's a printed recipe. it's on my counter in a sheet protector. If it's online, I have a special 'virtual' bookmark for this week's recipes only. I use those to grocery shop as well. When I'm ready to prep dinner, everything I need is at my fingertips.

____ 3. A good paper shredder. Identity theft is at an all-time high these days causing nightmare situations when it happens. Avoid this by shredding paperwork containing account numbers, social security numbers, or anything personal.
