Stop Weeds in Your Yard and Garden Before They Begin to Invade
If you spent significant time last summer fretting about and/or plucking weeds,
there is a better way. Here are a few quick tips to stop those weeds...before
they begin to invade your outside quarters and your life.
1) Be sure you're watering your lawn properly. Water your lawn about once
a week, unless it has been especially rainy, giving it about an inch of water.
Doing so will help the roots of your grass grow deep, preventing weeds from
taking root.
2) Keep your lawn thick and plush. One of the best ways to prevent lawn
weeds is to ensure your grass is competitive. To do so, overseed areas that are
bare, keep your grass at around 4 inches high, and fertilize when needed. In
other words, crowd out the weeds.
3) Use lots of high quality mulch. My husband and I use organic mulch in
our garden beds, and layer it about 2 inches thick. Doing so prevents weeds,
improves soil structure, adds nutrients, keeps the soil cool, and reduces water
loss to evaporation.
4) Use barriers. Some people swear by landscape fabric made of burlap,
other natural fibers, or recycled plastics. They block weed growth while
allowing water and air into the soil, and must be used with thick, high quality
mulch.
5) Pull them before they spread. You can't prevent every weed, but when
you do see one, pull it immediately being sure to pull out the root as well.
6) When it comes to dandelions... pull them before the flowers turn into
puffballs and blow around the yard. If you don't, that single dandelion can
produce 15,000 or more seeds each year, and each seed can survive for up to six
years in the soil!

Yes, meow means something
What does it mean, you ask?
Good question. It's about the same as aloha in Hawaiian.
The meaning changes.
Context matters hugely. Is it a mean meow, or a friendly one?
What about the cat's body action? Is he facing towards you, or away? Is the tail
curled, or lying flat against the floor?
Depending on these points, 'meow' could mean 'let's watch a movie together' or
'boy am I thirsty right now.'
So getting the tone and body language right is critical.
Finally, there's a quick guide on the essentials of cat communication to open
your ears (and your heart) into the fascinating world of feline communication,
both verbal and nonverbal.
This guide, written by a PhD animal communications expert Dr Jonas Jurgella, is
the missing link that allows you to bond with your own feline friend as if he
was a human child.
That's the power of true and honest communication, vs the primitive 'animal baby
talk' that so many pet owners unfortunately relegate themselves to.
