  TO DO This Week

TO DO This Week

____ 1. Give your houseplants some TLC. Have you looked at your houseplants lately? It's very easy just to water them quickly once a week, thinking that's all they need, and maybe you will remember to buy and give them some plant food soon. But your plants will thrive with a bit of extra care. This week, as you visit each plant with the watering can, take time to clean the dust off the leaves with a damp towel, or in the case of fuzzy-leaved plants, like African violets, a soft brush. Pick or cut off dead or yellowing leaves. Take care of any pests. See if your plants are thirsty. If so, give them a good watering. And most would appreciate a bit of plant food periodically.

____ 2. Dust your moldings or walls where they meet the ceiling. This week, go through the house with a long-handled duster and dust the walls up where they meet the ceiling. Webs can frequently be found up in the corners. Cobwebs are the homes spiders have abandoned, usually because little food was found in the area. The webs remain sticky however and attract dust and pollen... and anything else floating in the air (like pet fur.) While there is no scientific proof, it seems to me they most often appear when you have company. At any rate, take a little time this week to sweep them down and dispose of them. Then invite some company quickly before new ones appear.

____ 3. Brush your pet. With summer in full swing, your pets are likely shedding some fur. Our white bunny rabbit, Buddy, is shedding like crazy right now. Whose idea was it to choose black appliances? Darn...it was mine. To prevent sloughed off fur from showing up on clothes, or the furniture, give your pets a good brushing. Or if a trim is a part of their normal routine, it may be time for a trip to the groomer. Short-haired cats should be brushed once or twice a week, long-haired cats may need it daily. Dogs should be brushed at least every other day. For dogs, use the appropriate brush for her coat, usually bristle brushes for short-haired dogs, and sleeker brushes for those with long hair. Periodically after a good brushing, give your dog a bath. Only do nail trims if you are truly comfortable with the task...otherwise, have the groomer handle it. If you have a bunny, like my family, brushing should be done throughout all shedding seasons.
