____ 1. Penguins. For some strange reason, we've frequented an unusually
high volume of zoo and aquarium visits this summer. My favorite animals to watch
at both, smelly as they are, are the penguins. One fun fact I learned, 'Unlike
most birds, which lose and replace a few feathers at a time, penguins molt all
at once, spending two or three weeks land-bound as they undergo what is called
the catastrophic molt.' Coincidentally, the same thing happens with our pet
bunny rabbit, Buddy...three times a year...and this is one of those times.
White. Fur. Everywhere. 'Catastrophic molt' seems to be an appropriate name
in this case as well.
____ 2. Re-watching a favorite series. I was a big fan of the TV series,
'Friends' back in the 90s. Now, my 15-year old daughter has discovered it and
has been binge-watching...that's OK. She's almost back to school...and all the
craziness that and her extra activities brings...so this is a nice break for her
before that all starts. Anyway, watching it again with her this time has been
such a fun family activity. One of my favorite quotes from 'Friends'...
(This is the one with Ross's repeated epic fails in a spray-tan booth.)
Ross: 'I went to that tanning place your wife suggested.'
Chandler: 'Was that place THE SUN?'
____ 3. Shelf dividers. Shelves are great for stacking tee shirts,
sweaters, towels, and sheets. Or they are great until you dig something from the
bottom of the stack and everything falls over to the side. After one too many
cascading dishtowels one afternoon, I started scoping out shelf dividers. I
found a set of 8 and like them so much that I bought more for the shelves in my
closet where some of my casual tee shirts are stacked. I'm also using them for
separating purses on a shelf. Some dividers are designed for tall shelves, and
some are for shorter shelves, so be sure to measure your shelf height. Also
check the thickness of the shelf, so that the part that grips the shelf is not
too large or too small. The dividers just slide onto the shelf. Happily, no
tools required. Visit:
