These Are Great to Have When Doing Laundry
Hi Maria,
In a previous newsletter edition, you mentioned stocking up on denture cleaning
tablets for several household uses. Did you know that they make great stain
removers for laundry?
In fact, I keep and clean leftover hair dye squeeze bottles and fill them with
these stain fighters:
a) Hydrogen peroxide: Apply hydrogen peroxide to the stain and allow to sit for
a minimum of 30 minutes. Use a wet, soft brush to work in the hydrogen peroxide
and rub out the stain. Follow with a regular wash cycle.
b) Dollar-store denture tablets in water. The water may turn green, but will not
stain your clothing. Place clothing in a basin with 3 tablets and warm water,
allow to soak for an hour, and follow with a regular wash cycle.
c) Spic and Span: Spic and Span can be added at the beginning of the wash cycle
to disinfect as needed
These three items usually remove any stains (except rust), are far less
expensive than name brand stain removers, and work better.
I start with peroxide, especially if it is a fairly fresh blood stain. If the
stain does not remove with peroxide, I go to denture cleaner, plus peroxide. If
it doesn't budge, I do all three.

I'm the do-it-all woman at a small motel and laundry is one of my
responsibilities. Cornell University has a great stain removal sheet in its
online textile section but, sadly, little or nothing seems to work on mustard or
rust.

'Now they show you how detergents take out bloodstains, a pretty violent image
there. I think if you've got a T-shirt with a bloodstain all over it, maybe
laundry isn't your biggest problem.Maybe you should get rid of the body before
you do the wash.'
