____ 1. A meal that's pleasing to the palate, and the eye. We all eat... several times a day. So why not make those meal times as lovely as possible? Here are three things you can do to be sure you're plating your meals as attractively as possible:

a) Think colorful: If you're serving two like-colored foods (chicken and potatoes), add two splashes of color. Try lightly steamed broccoli for a burst of green...and ruby red strawberries

b) Be sure the color and pattern of your plate or bowl complements the food you're putting into it. If you're not great with color-matching, opt for plain white dinnerware.

c) Don't overload the plate. The more food on the plate, the less appetizing it's going to look. Leave some 'white space' so to speak.

____ 3. Flexible Silicon Pot Holders. The first silicone potholders I ever had were thick and stiff. I found them difficult to use for grabbing stoneware casseroles or the edges of cookie sheets. After very nearly dropping a really nice stoneware baking dish, I put them aside to simply use as trivets and went back to my old fabric potholders. Then one day, I came across the silicone potholders of my dreams, and have since almost completely retired my cloth potholders. These are flexible, grippy, and wash off so easily. I also use them as trivets and for opening tight jar lids. They make excellent gifts too. I'm going to buy a bunch for friends this upcoming holiday season.
