____ 1. Lazy Sundays. As busy as life can get, it is nice once in a while to take a day to do absolutely nothing. I allow myself one of these 'lazy' days, typically on a Sunday. I wake naturally, without an alarm going off. I slowly sip my morning coffee without having to watch the clock. I might lounge around and read a book, do some scrapbooking while watching a movie, or take a leisurely walk with my family. The freedom of having a day that I don't have to be anywhere in particular is a pleasant break from the normal rush of the day-to-day that many of us are generally used to.

____ 2. Crisp fall days. As much as I love summer and I really don't want to let it go (as is the case every year), I am slowly beginning to embrace the cooler fall days. There's something special about taking in the brilliant colors, walking on crunchy, fallen leaves, going to a football game, and smelling a neighbor's wood fireplace burning. I savor the days that the temperatures are such that it doesn't require either air conditioning or heat to be turned on...and an open window bringing in fresh air. It has been fun seeing the pumpkins and cornstalks popping up on my neighbors' porches and the inflow of pumpkin spice everything. This time of year is a great bridge between the blazing hot of summer and the bitter chill of winter.

____ 3. Reuseable straws. Converting to a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle isn't too hard, like switching to fabric shopping bags, accepting paperless billing, and using reusable straws. The straws my family uses are stainless steel, come with cleaning brushes, have a case for traveling, and come with silicon tips in assorted colors to protect your lips and teeth and for identifying which straw belongs to which family member. Plus, you can use them for hot or cold beverages. In addition, they are extremely durable, dishwasher safe, rust- and scratch-proof, and can last for years and replace hundreds of plastic straws. Many restaurants are either not offering straws at all or switching to paper ones (I don't like drinking out of paper straws)...so having a set of these in my purse for family outings works really well. Here are the ones I have:
