Web Poll Results:
Walking into a Room Full of People
We recently polled our readers: When you walk into a room full of people,
what do you do? Here are the results:
47% I look for one or two people I know and stick with them.
20% I introduce myself to one or two people. It's always fun to meet someone
new.
19% Greet everyone with a handshake or hug. I'm very friendly.
14% I am very uncomfortable in large groups. I try to avoid them...and I'm by
myself when it happens.
Our results show that most of us fall neither into the very extroverted or very
introverted category. Most of us like to be with people we know, and enjoy their
company. Sometimes we have not seen them in a while, so we spend much of the
time just catching up together.
Still, it can be fun to have the opportunity to meet new people, perhaps make
some new friends. Many people feel content just to meet one or two new people,
and spend a little more time getting to know them. That is how a lot of
friendships get started. You find interests in common, maybe even belong to some
of the same organizations. Sometimes you really connect with someone and make
plans to get together again for lunch or coffee. This person could end up being
one of your closest friends. Aren't you glad you met them?
Then there are those who can happily mingle with everyone, the joyous extroverts
of the group. These dear people routinely brighten a party or any other get
together. If you're one of these fine folks, look for people who seem a bit
introverted and give them a helping hand in feeling more comfortable. You'll be
doing a good deed...and you may benefit greatly from meeting a new friend or
business associate as well.
Some among us feel very uncomfortable with large groups. Probably few of us have
not felt the same way at least once. You find yourself in a large gathering, and
everyone seems to know everyone else, everyone except you. If this sounds like
you, here are some tips:
1) Sometimes the best thing to do is to pretend you are not feeling shy and act
'as if' you are comfortable as you introduce yourself to someone. Look for
someone who seems to be alone...it's quite possible they may be feeling just as
uncomfortable in that large group as you.
2) Another possibility is finding a small group within that large group, perhaps
three or four people. Rather than trying to be 'the conversation starter,' be an
active listener instead.
3) Also, remember that you don't have to say something profound. Even small
interjections, like, 'I so agree with what you're saying' can help you feel like
you're part of the conversation.
4) One other thing I suggest is to arrive EARLY at whatever event you're
attending. This will give you the best chance to get in on a conversation from
the get-go, before everyone else has had a chance to find their 'group.' It's
also less overwhelming when things are 'just getting started' versus when
conversations are 'well under way.'
We all have our place in these large groups. It's good to have our different
styles of relating. They are all beneficial. Whatever style is yours when you
encounter a large group...be assured that it's an important element.

Organize Every Bit of
Information in Your Life
Quickly and Easily with the...
Get Organized Now!
Easy Organizer
Loaded with tons of forms, checklists,
logs, and information sheets
to help you organize
every aspect of your life!

Because it's impossible to stay on top of everything going on without writing
things down, people are getting inundated with more and more paper every day.
You have to remember a birthday, so that gets written on a calendar. You have to
make a grocery list, so you scribble down a few items and stick the list on the
fridge. Someone gives you a phone number, and it gets written in the address
book. You're planning your garden, and that information is stored in a notebook.
You want to keep track of the movies you want to see, or the books you want to
read--another sheet of paper. A friend gives you an email address on a sticky
note that is now attached to your computer monitor.
Paper, paper and more paper--and it's all over your home!
Information is getting lost. Appointments are missed. Goals aren't being met.
And all of this adds up to chaos and frustration.
This is where the Get Organized Now! Easy Organizer comes in and saves the day.
It allows you to organize all of your information so it's in one place and
easily found when you need it!
Here's what just one customer had to say:
The Easy Organizer is just that--it's so easy. I've got lists now in one
place that before I'd been carrying around in my head, my pockets, around my
desk, in the kitchen... Before I had post-it notes all over the place. Now
they're in the Easy Organizer. A lot of great ideas and important information
have been lost in the shuffle before this! I love this thing. Knowing where to
find things right away and having a very simple way of entering the info--many
kinds, in many forms--is such a relief. This was a great investment...and,
really, it's such a great value for everything it includes! Thanks so
much!
