Another Use for Grandmother's China
Just a note to let you know that I enjoy your newsletters daily and the 5-minute
format that only takes a few minutes to read. You answered a reader question in
a newsletter awhile back from a lady named Jennifer who was a minimalist and
didn't want to dedicate space for her grandmothers' china sets that she would
never use...and wanted ideas on what she could do with them.
You provided a bunch of ideas, and I had another. They would make lovely gifts
to friends, teachers, and family members. Just add a few teabags and wrap them
up in some pretty paper appropriate for any occasion.
I also have a box of tea sets that belong to my mother-in-law in the basement. I
do display some, but don't want to give them up. Just too sentimental.

Wow, it was certainly enlightening!
Maria,
You included a story in one of your newsletters last year, and, WOW...it was
certainly enlightening, specifically the last line...
'Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy,
words of affirmation for ourselves; and kindness, gentleness and love for
others.'
I've printed it out and taped it to my desk to work on every day. Thank you.

Note from Maria Gracia
Thanks, Daneen! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Here is the story again for those of you who missed it:
What's In Your Cup?
This little story, by Thich Nhat Hanh (a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace
activist) offered me the perfect cup of motivation today...and I hope it does
for you as well. Here goes...
You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or
shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.
Why did you spill the coffee?
'Well because someone bumped into me, of course!'
Wrong answer.
You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.
Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.
Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out.
Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is
inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled.
So we have to ask ourselves. 'what's in my cup?'
When life gets tough, what spills over?
Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility?
Or anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?
You choose.
Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy,
words of affirmation for ourselves; and kindness, gentleness and love for
others.
