  TO DO This Week

TO DO This Week

____ 1. Begin putting away Christmas. On what some people know as 'Little Christmas,' my family begins stowing away our Christmas decor until next season. We have quite a bit up, so we don't attempt to put everything away on one day, but rather spread the work out over a few days. We start with our tree ornaments (tucking those away safely in an ornament bin), then our tree lights, and then our tree. With the tree dismantled, we then move onto other 'categories' of decorations...like the decorations on our fireplace mantel, our Christmas village, and so on. All of these other items are stored in labeled plastic bins and stored on shelves in our basement 'Christmas closet.' Wreaths are removed last and hung on Command Strip hooks in that same closet. For decor that's simply 'winter themed,' we leave that up for a bit and begin rotating that decor out when Valentine's Day rolls around in February.

____ 2. Declutter under the kitchen sink. Say goodbye to cleaning products you don't use and sort the ones you do. I organize in three small basins under my kitchen sink as follows:
1) Dishwashing products (dishwashing soap, dishwasher gel packs, extra sponges, dish rags)
2) Specialized cleaning products (copper cleaner, cooktop cleaner, Goo Gone).
3) General cleaning products (disinfectant spray, Windex, a homemade solution of white vinegar and water)
If you store vases under the sink, like I do, donate any excess. I keep two wide-neck vases and one small neck...that's it.

____ 3. Clean out the fridge. Now that the holiday season is over, it's a good time to empty the fridge and clean it out. Pitch all leftovers past their prime, and anything expired. If one of your New Year's resolutions this year is for your family to eat healthier, it's a good time to get rid of anything that's going to sabotage those efforts. Clean the fridge shelves and bins, go grocery shopping, and fill with fresh vegetables and fruit.
