I Was a Bit Shell-Shocked...

Maria,

In response to your December 30th Anti-Resolution List and December 31st 20 New Year's Resolutions Anyone Can Keep newsletter issues:

I was going through many of my emails and had not read yours yet...just due to the shear volume of emails (80% junk). Then, I located and read your ideas of resolutions to get started.

I was a bit shell-shocked to find many of the resolutions that resonate with me. I receive weekly counseling due to depression. I have Lupus and have encountered many challenges.

As a Registered Nurse, I've had to temporarily stop work in order to get my life back in order. I have two kids (11 and 12) and a 95 year old mother to care for on top of this and sometimes cannot find where to start in terms of organizing and cleaning up.

Your emails are very helpful and something I can read and think about if I can use the ideas. I'm 55, but in my mind I'm 25. Although my body is broken, literally, and my mind is weak at times, I believe there are many things I can change within myself.

I'm finding that I like things in order and organized, although not a clean freak as my son's Dad is. I'm hoping, throughout 2020, that you will continue to inspire me to be the Best person I can be, achieve reasonable goals, and stop the comparison shopping where I continuously see myself in a negative light, physically.

In my relationship, my guy and I have separated due to my brother's passing and my decision to assist my mom by moving back home. Although we are pretty close, there is a missing link and I'm not sure we will make it. We've been together for 16 years and I still feel the same, if not more love for him, at this point.

So all the way around in life, I'm looking at my past and Yes holding on to what was...instead of moving forward. I don't know how to do this, even at my mature age. I'm trying to make amends within my soul and, although not blaming myself, I see areas where I could have just done things differently.

2020 will be filled with many challenges for me as I am facing Heart Valve surgery. So seeing through this pile of fog is holding me back. I don't even know if I can plan a future. If I put in my mind that I don't have lupus and heart failure, maybe my goals would be different. So, I ask, 'what does Maria think would help?'

I'm hoping that with your emails and newsletters that I will be able to see clearer and truly find Happiness and Peace in my heart and life.

I wish you all the Best in 2020 and continued success. I look forward to your future newsletters.

Note from Maria Gracia:

Sharon, I so appreciate your note and my heart goes out to you. You have a lot on your plate right now, so it's definitely important to zone in on one thing at a time.

A question I immediately have is, are you truly able to care for your mom right now...by yourself? Is there someone else who can assist? A caregiver, perhaps? A rotating schedule with other family members? I know you love your mom, and want to care for her, but this may be too much for you physically and emotionally and that concerns me.

When is your heart valve surgery? I'm asking because you're not going to be able to care for your mother...or even your kids...after you have that surgery. Putting a plan in place for that seems to be priority right now. And when that is going on, it's important for you take your time to recover properly.

Regarding your relationship, you love your guy...and it sounds to me like you need him now, more than ever. Was it your decision to separate or his?

Is it in your budget to get someone to help out with daily TO DOs, like a cleaning service? Even if it's once a month. Hopefully your kids are helping you keep up a bit...and giving them small organizing projects that they can accomplish will help them help you...and help them help themselves later on.

With your health challenges, relationship challenges, the responsibilities you've taken on your shoulders, and your children still at the age when they need you, trying to keep a happy, positive outlook is, in turn, also challenging, but absolutely paramount for helping you get through all this.

I'm glad you're enjoying my newsletters, and hope to strike other chords in your life that will help to keep you grounded and strong. In the meantime, always remember baby steps. Take one day at a time. Celebrate every success, no matter how small it may seem. Also, I highly recommend you write down three things you're thankful for every single morning...and read them before you go to bed at night. In doing so, you begin with something positive, first-thing and last-thing each day.

Hugs,

Maria
