7 Ways to Organize with Lazy Susans
Most folks are familiar with Lazy Susans...trays that can be rotated to assist
in accessing whatever is on them, generally used in the center of a table so
everyone sitting around the table could spin it and reach the items on it. Lazy
Susans have been around for quite some time. In fact, historians have traced
their origins back as far as 18th century England. In the United States, the
first known written appearance appeared in a Vanity Fair advertisement in 1917,
a mahogany 16" tabletop tray (a Lazy Susan) for the price of $8.50.
The kind of funny thing is, you can still get a Lazy Susan today for under $10,
but probably not the mahogany ones. And, years later, they're still very
useful. Here are unconventional ways you can use a Lazy Susan to get and stay
organized:
1) Display your colognes/perfumes, nail polish, or cosmetics, and make these
items easily accessible
2) Use it on a fridge shelf to sort and organize condiments or dairy items (sour
cream, creamer, etc.) This helps prevent food items from being shoved to the
back of the refrigerator
3) Tuck in a cabinet to store your medications and vitamins for easy
accessibility when needed
4) Keep spices together and in one place, and simply spin to the one you need
when you're cooking. (My mom used a Lazy Susan in her kitchen cabinet for years
for this purpose.)
4) Keep small baking supplies together, like sprinkles, icing, chocolate
chips, and such. Sometimes I place small like-items in mason jars, and then
put the mason jars on the Lazy Susan
5) Use under the kitchen sink to corral cleaning supplies. You may even be
able to use two Lazy Susans in this area. Spinning to what you need is better
than getting down and desparately searching for sponges, copper cleaner, and
other cleaning products
6) Place a cake on a Lazy Susan and easily spin the Lazy Susan to frost and
decorate it easily. The baking pros do this!
7) Include a fun display on one, like a hot cocoa station or a S'mores station
By the way, Lazy Susans make great 'corner' storage...allowing you to make good
use out of a kitchen or bathroom corner. You'll be able to fit a lot in a small
space, without it looking cluttered.
Here are a few nice Lazy Susan options on Amazon:
1. This one is 2-tier and great for cabinets or the fridge. It measures 12
inches x 12 inches x 7.5 inches. It has a non-skid surface and a rimmed edge so
items won't fall off as you're spinning. It's also very easy to clean. Visit:

2. This one is also 2-tier, but made of wood, making it perfect to keep out on
display. It actually has 6 (removable) partition boards, allowing you to keep
items separated, such as one slot for tea bags, one for sugar, and one for k-
cups...or to keep savory and sweet spices separated...or to separate craft items
or jewelry, etc. It measures 12 inches x 12 inches x 7.9 inches. Visit:

3. This one has very high outer walls to help ensure items don't fall out when
spinning, and is made of clear, shatter-proof plastic. It's great for organizing
vitamins, body lotions, shampoo and conditioner, etc. It measures 9 inches x 3.4
inches. Visit:
