____ 1. Commit to doing something healthy for yourself. Whether you're
going to clean out your fridge to make room for nourishing fruits and
vegetables, trying out a new exercise class, walking or cross-country skiing
routine, scheduling time on your calendar to meditate or to relax and clear your
mind, or making a wellness appointment with your doctor or dentist, do something
that's related to a healthier you this week.
____ 2. Check in with your child about school. Many schools (that begin
in September and end in June) have recently reached their mid-points, meaning
half the school year is behind them...and half is ahead. It's a very good time
to check in with your child to be sure he or she is on track, maintaining good
organizing habits, and keeping up with everything that needs to be done to
ensure a successful second half.
____ 3. Check for drafts. Depending on where you live, the temperature
outside may be pretty cold this time of year. Checking your home for drafts is
always a good idea because cold air slipping in around doors and windows can
mean higher heating bills. Here's a very simple test to conduct: Light a stick
of incense. Slowly move it around door and window seams. The smoke should go
straight up, which would indicate no drafts. If, however, the smoke is dancing
around, you've likely located a draft. To fix this, on windows, you may need
caulk...on doors, you may need a
door draft stopper.
