Being Organized with Healthy Eating Goals
One way to be sure your healthy meal goals go right out the window is to not
have an organized plan in place.
1. Set your rules and write them down. For instance...
--must be plant-based, or gluten-free, or within a certain calorie limit, etc.
--must be able to prep and cook in 30 minutes or less
--must contain ingredients most family members like
Keep your specific rule list easily accessible and visible.
2. Seek out recipes that meet the criteria you determined. Consider printing
them out. I'm usually not a fan of generating extra paper, but having five
recipes printed out and on the kitchen counter is usually easier, for most
people, than having to search for them on your iPad or computer when you're
ready to cook.
3. Grocery shop well ahead of time, in person or online. Be flexible. If you
can't get an ingredient, or if it's silly to buy that item for the small amount
you need in the recipe, skip it or substitute it. Running around to several
stores to find something can get old and time-consuming very quickly.
4. Prep whatever you can ahead of time, whether it's chopping the veggies, or
steaming some rice, etc.
5. Read your recipe, twice, before you begin cooking. Try picturing the steps in
your head.
6. Measure out all ingredients before following your recipe, step by step.
7. Evaluate. Did you like the recipe? Great! Add it to your recipe binder with
any notes you want to remember. Didn't like it? That's OK. Try something else
next time.
