Web Poll Results: When Do You Get the Most Done?

I recently polled my GON readers asking, 'When do you get the most done?' Here are the results:

39% Early Morning
19% When the inspiration hits!
18% Late Morning
11% Afternoon
9% Late Evening
4% Early Evening

Do the answers to this poll surprise you? What group would you place yourself in?

Looking at the survey, it seems that many folks are their most productive in the morning hours. Generally in the morning, nothing has gone wrong that we've noticed or that has distracted us from our tasks. Maybe our family members haven't woken up yet (or are already at work or school), and aren't asking us for assistance with whatever. Most people have a cup of coffee in the morning, and that revs up their juices.

Some folks don't hit their stride until the afternoon or evening. Then there is no stopping them. Some are still going strong even as the morning people are brushing their teeth and heading to bed. Afternoon and evening people often use mornings to do the mundane things that don't require too much focus. When their high energy time appears, they can use that period to their best advantage.

Surprisingly, nearly 20% appear to have no set time when they feel most productive. When motivation hits, they are off and running, no matter the time of day. Probably this sometimes happens even to morning and evening people. My friend, Anna, says she is anything but a morning person. However, looking at her messy makeup drawer one morning, she absolutely had to start cleaning it immediately and had the job done in twenty minutes.

Personally, I fall somewhere in between that high-energy early morning and late morning range, but occasionally I'll have a high-energy moment in the evening (sometimes even late evening) if something inspires me...or is nagging at me and I just want to get it done.

The important thing is to know when you feel the most productive. Then schedule your most important work to coincide with that time. This leaves you downtime to do things requiring less concentration, or you can use the time for some well-deserved relaxation.
