____ 1. A flowering plant. In the middle of winter, sometimes it feels like spring will never arrive. Skies are often dull and gray, which can zap our energy and spirits. This is a great time to bring home a flowering plant, maybe some tulips or daffodils in a pot, or an African violet? Perhaps a bouquet of flowers for the table? They just may provide the lift you need on a cold, winter's day and help bring a bit of a lighter, brighter 'early spring' mood.

____ 2. Smiles. Have you ever been at the grocery store or waiting in a line, and someone near you smiled? You probably smiled back. It was a connection between two people that made you both feel good. Maybe the smiles may have been in sympathy over a long line or amusement caused by a cute baby nearby. Maybe there was no reason; you just happened to look at each other. Sometimes a single smile can do so much to brighten a day. Today, smile at someone. This person may be struggling with things you don't know about, and your smile may be the only one he or she gets today.

____ 3. An electric kettle. When I was growing up, my mom made herself tea often...with a whistling tea pot on the stove. Anytime I see a whistling tea pot, it brings back memories of my mom and how much she enjoyed her daily cup of tea. I'm more of a coffee drinker, but my whole family (myself included) will have tea now and then, especially when someone isn't feeling well. Also, every now and then, we need boiling water for a whole bunch of hot cocoas (usually when my daughter invites her friends over) or for a quick bowl of oatmeal. While you can heat water in the coffee maker, sometimes the tea then ends up with coffee overtones. A regular whistling tea pot would serve this purpose, of course, but you have to be sure you don't leave it unattended. That's why I like my electric kettle. It's a quick way to heat water and, because of the automatic shut off, it's safer in my mind than a kettle on the stovetop. Just last week, I held a 'tea and donuts' morning get together at my house...and I can't begin to tell you how many compliments I received. Check it out here:

Learn What Your Cat is Trying To Tell You With...

The Cat Language Bible

In it you'll learn how to finally understand
and speak with your cat

Yes, meow means something

What does it mean, you ask?

Good question. It's about the same as aloha in Hawaiian.

The meaning changes.

Context matters hugely. Is it a mean meow, or a friendly one?

What about the cat's body action? Is he facing towards you, or away? Is the tail curled, or lying flat against the floor?

Depending on these points, 'meow' could mean 'let's watch a movie together' or 'boy am I thirsty right now.'

So getting the tone and body language right is critical.

Finally, there's a quick guide on the essentials of cat communication to open your ears (and your heart) into the fascinating world of feline communication, both verbal and nonverbal.

This guide, written by a PhD animal communications expert Dr Jonas Jurgella, is the missing link that allows you to bond with your own feline friend as if he was a human child.

That's the power of true and honest communication, vs the primitive 'animal baby talk' that so many pet owners unfortunately relegate themselves to.
