  TO DO This Week

TO DO This Week

____ 1. Give your kitchen sink some TLC. All kitchen sinks need some tender loving care...they can get icky pretty quickly if we neglect them. Keep your kitchen sink empty, rather than piling dishes, glasses, pots, etc. in it throughout the day. Each evening, quick-clean the sink with a drop of dish detergent, being sure to remove any food particles first. My sink is stainless steel (if yours isn't, check your care manual.) Here's how I recommend you clean your stainless steel sink. Sprinkle the sink basin with baking soda. Using a damp cloth, spread the baking soda in the entire basin in a gentle circular motion. Then pour in some white vinegar (you'll hear a 'fizz') and wipe again with the cloth. Finally, rinse the sink out with clean, hot water. If you'd like to go the extra mile at this point, there are two things you can do:

1) Wipe the entire sink basin with citrus peels. Add those peels to the garbage disposal, if you have one, and run it for a few moments. This will help clean the blades and give your sink a clean, fresh scent.

2) Add a tiny drop of olive oil to the basin and buff with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel to make it shine.

Just as an added FYI, the information above is for simple household cleaning. There is no evidence that vinegar alone is effective against coronavirus. So, if you're disinfecting for this virus, you may have to use a bleach solution or approved commercial cleaner.

____ 2. Work on boosting your immune system. Evaluate your eating habits. Be sure you're eating plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit and not too much junk food. Exercise daily, 30 to 60 minutes. Be sure you're getting adequate, restful sleep. Quit smoking, if applicable, and limit alcohol. Take whatever actions you can to minimize stress. Take steps to avoid infections, such as washing your hands frequently. Your health is so important. I highly recommend keeping a health journal and giving yourself daily goals to achieve to help ensure you're always feeling the best you can.

____ 3. Reevaluate, and change if needed, the process in which you wash your hands. In light of COVID-19, and in general, to properly wash your hands, wet hands with running water and apply soap. Scrub hands including the backs, between fingers, and under nails for at least 30 seconds. Rinse under running water. Dry with a single-use towel. If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. If you're washing hands in a public bathroom, use the paper towel you just used to dry your hands to open the door...then discard that paper towel in the nearest trash receptacle.
