We All Blinked...and Life Changed
It was never on my mind that life could change so drastically, so quickly, for
so many people, at one time. But then it did.
We all blinked...and life changed.
And it's looking like it's going to be quite some time before we can get back to
the way of living that we all know, love, and desperately miss...that world
prior to the coronavirus pandemic.
For my family, personally, life is very different. Our daughter, Amanda, is home
from school doing all of her schoolwork on the sofa, in her comfy sweatpants on
most days, talking to teachers virtually when needed. All of her friends are 'in
her phone' like before...but there is no more in-person interaction, no more
group outings for pizza or ice cream, and no lifeguarding right now either.
Amanda passed her driving test and got herself a car just a few weeks prior to
stay-at-home orders. Her car is now getting dusty in the garage. I know this is
emotionally challenging for kids. It's emotionally challenging for adults.
My husband and I are at home working on our businesses, and are both now focused
heavily on helping individuals and businesses navigate through this storm...and
we've had to work into the wee hours of the night to adjust the constantly
changing information on our web sites and in our newsletters to match current
guidelines, as well as create informational presentations and eBooks to
accomplish this. I've been very busy with media interviews related to organizing
and cleaning as well. It feels good to help in some small way.
The eleven to twelve fitness classes I teach each week have come to a grinding
halt...And I desperately miss these environments and my class attendees. I'm now
teaching live classes online, as a community service to help us all keep some
sense of normalcy and motivation in our lives.
Like so many people these days, I'm now disinfecting my groceries, washing my
hands constantly, hoping that Charmin toilet paper shows up at the supermarket
soon (although I'm grateful for the off-brand), not leaving the house unless
it's for a quick grocery run or to have a cup of coffee on my deck, watching the
news more than ever (ugh...I don't recommend it, but it's hard not to do), and
hoping and praying some super-intelligent people come up with medication that
will help....a cure...a vaccine.
Life for our bunny, Buddy, hasn't changed much. He still eats, sleeps, and hops
around, and gets under my feet...but I do think he's pretty confused as to why
we're all home 24 hours a day/7 days a week. That being said, I think he likes
it.
My heart breaks for everyone who has lost loved ones, or who has loved ones
in very serious conditions.
I have many family members in New York and New Jersey, extremely volatile areas.
My sister is a nurse on the front lines. My 80-year old father lives with her
and her family. I worry about them every day, as well as my aunt in Florida, and
my other family and friends as well. This all being said, we're getting along at
the moment and I try to remain on the bright side of the fence as much as
possible, although admittedly, that can be difficult at times.
Life is full of challenges and this is certainly a huge one for many people
around the globe, but I'm confident that, no matter what, we'll get through it,
hopefully with an even greater appreciation for life, love, family, and the
strength, power, and beauty of friendships. In the meantime, sending thoughts
and prayers to you and your loved ones. Be strong and be safe...we will get
through this!
