TO DO This Week

____ 1. Develop a safe system for handling mail and packages. According
to a recent report by the CDC, we're not being instructed to disinfect our mail.
'In general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces,
there is likely very low risk of spread from products or packaging that are
shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient temperatures,' the CDC said on
its website. That being said, there is a small (but certainly possible) chance
that the carrier who just delivered your mail or packages could be carrying the
virus, so why take any chances? When opening mail and packages, do not under any
circumstances touch your face. Open mail over recycling containers, getting rid
of any unnecessary inserts, envelopes (you don't need them if you pay your bills
online), etc., catalogs you're not interested in, and so on. Put any other mail
that must be read in a tray and handle it as needed...doing whatever needs to be
done, filing it away for future reference, etc. Once you're done handling mail
and packages, wash your hands and disinfect any surfaces you (or the
mail/packages) touched including the table or counter you laid your mail or
packages on.
____ 2. Is your purse carrying germs? According to the restoration
retailer, Handbag Clinic, our purses and handbags can carry up to 10,000 types
of bacteria. This means they can potentially be more germy than the average
toilet bowl. With the COVID-19 epidemic, we have to be especially careful.
Reconsider if you need your handbag with you in the first place. A lanyard that
holds your license, keys, and debit card may be all you require, especially for
a quick grocery run. If you absolutely need to bring your purse, bring an
inexpensive one that can easily be disinfected when you return home. And don't
rest your purse inside a shopping cart. If you're going to bring it, keep it on
your shoulder.
____ 3. Be mindful about eating and staying active. Due to stress, lack
of exercise, and so many people under stay-at-home orders, it's very easy to
begin stress eating, sit a lot, and start gaining weight. First off, be careful
about the types of foods you have sitting in your fridge, freezer, and pantry.
What is the percentage of healthy foods in your home right now, compared to
unhealthy choices? Don't make it easy to eat unhealthy. Second, create
structured meal plans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and if you snack in
between, make that snacking choice raw veggies, a piece of fruit, or a small
amount of nuts. Stay hydrated to help keep you full. It's also easy for us to
choose to eat just because we are bored. Have planned activities you're working
on or enjoying. Finally, be active. Work out for 30 to 60 minutes every single
day.
