During this lockdown, I may do a notebook...

Maria,

In response to your April 8th Newsletter

You know, this isn't a bad idea for many people...and specifically women like myself, who find ourselves being 'vice president in charge of clerical' for our households.

A memory pops up for me reading this issue. We had a long-time couple we were friends with. He worked with my husband and I at the airlines. She was a lifetime nurse, and mom to 4 grown lovely people. She suddenly passed. Once when we visited him, he showed us he had converted their guest bedroom into a makeshift office with a makeshift desk, for all the paperwork he had to find his way through...her pensions, her social security, her accounts, etc. It was not an easy task for him. In fact, it was quite overwhelming.

I'm thinking, during this lockdown, (I know it's morbid and we don't like to think it) I may do a notebook, with step-by-step things that will need to be done, and passwords and such. Heaven knows, my darling hubby would still need to turn it over to a relative to handle, but it would at least help them out.

Questions about your pet rabbit

Maria,

In response to your March 29th Newsletter

I was inspired to read about your pet rabbit. How fun. Can you share some tips on how you helped organize the rabbit's litter training? Also, does a rabbit have a tendency to eat cords? Or anything else that needs to be removed? Thanks for all your bright words!

Note from Maria Gracia:

Hi Carmen,

Thanks for your note. Yes, Buddy, our pet rabbit, is a very sweet, cute, cuddly member of our family and has been for years. All rabbits are different, so I can only speak from our experience.

As far as litter-training, we really didn't do much. By nature, rabbits choose only a few places where they 'do their business,' so when we first got Buddy, we got him a litter box and closed off the room so that he could not venture into other areas of the house. We put a thin later of litter in the box, added a bunch of hay to it (because bunnies like to eat and 'do their business' at the same time), and that was it. It was very easy for us. He pretty much trained himself. After two weeks of seeing that he was only 'going' in his box, we gave him free reign of our main areas...not the bathrooms or bedrooms (we close these doors.)

Regarding your cord question, YES, they love to eat cords. We discovered this after my husband was using a pair of expensive wired headphones one day. He was listening to his music and then SILENCE. When he got up, he discovered Buddy had chewed his wire in half. Goodbye headphones. He also managed to destroy an iPhone cord or two. But we've since defended ourselves fairly well. My husband covered all our lamp, TV, etc. cords in split-loom tubing, and that pretty much solved that problem.

There is definitely work to do when you have a bunny, from trimming nails, to cleaning out his cage or pen, to coming up with ways to protect your home from the natural instincts that bunnies have, such as digging and chewing. So, if you're considering a rabbit, definitely do your research because there is a lot to know.

That all being said, Buddy has brought so much joy into our house. My daughter is SO in love with him and has been since he became one of our family members back in 2014. (The above photo was taken in those first weeks when we brought him home from the bunny breeder.)

Thank you for asking about him!

Maria

GON Quick Tip All of us are, hopefully, disinfecting the toilets in our homes...even more so now with the coronavirus crisis. But, are you keeping the toilet brush clean as well? If you're putting it right back in the holder when you're done cleaning the toilet, it may be harboring harmful bacteria. Here's what you should be doing...
