  TO DO This Week

TO DO This Week

____ 1. Clean out a closet. Pick a closet...it could be your clothes closet, your coat closet, a basement closet, the linen closet, the kids' toy closet, a closet in a spare room. Empty it out, dust shelves and rods, vacuum or mop the floor, weed out anything you don't really like or that is not up to par from whatever you pulled out, and then put the keepers back in...in an organized fashion.

____ 2. Start an herb garden. I love having fresh herbs in my house, but I don't love paying top dollar for them at the supermarket every time I need them. Instead, I have an indoor 'container' herb garden that I bring outdoors in the warm weather. It includes some of our favorite herbs that I use in many of the dishes I cook, like basil, Italian parsley, oregano, rosemary, dill, and cilantro. It's wonderful to have these herbs on hand at arm's reach whenever I need them...and it saves tons of money as well. Why not start your own herb garden...or add another herb or two to your current herb garden if you have one already.

____ 3. Get ready to add fresh mulch to your landscaping. We use mulch in our front yard, back yard, and the sides of our house...and we replenish that mulch every one to two years as needed. After my husband and I recently pruned and cleaned up last year's perennials, we noticed lots of bare spots where our mulch once was. So, we definitely need to fill in this year. I was just about to send my husband out to purchase some, and then I read this on Lowe's web site, 'Don't put mulch down too early in the spring. Give the soil a chance to warm. Mulching too early will actually slow down the warming process. Normally, mid- to late spring is the best time to put down mulch.' So, being that we've still had some pretty chilly days and nights where we live, we're going to calculate what we need now, and purchase in the coming weeks as the weather warms in our area. Wondering how much you need? Here's a quick calculator: Mulch Calculator
