TO DO This Week

____ 1. Do something special for a graduate. The global pandemic has
wreaked havoc in so many ways, and graduation commencement ceremonies everywhere
have been postponed, are being done virtually, or have been canceled. It can be
heartbreaking for these graduates who have worked so hard throughout the years,
as well as families who were looking forward to in-person, public celebrations.
Still, most of these students are standing tall and, despite the circumstances,
are understanding that things aren't always what we would have liked them to be,
especially during trying times. If you know a graduate, do something special for
them. Send them a handwritten note or a card. Give them a gift...flowers, or a
gift card, perhaps. Congratulate them on social media. Acknowledge that what
they've accomplished is important and wonderful. I'd like to extend my personal
congratulations to the Class of 2020. May you have sunshine, hope, health,
strength, a love of lifelong learning, a greater appreciation for life, and
success always.
____ 2. Check your medicine cabinet. Are you keeping anything in your
medicine cabinet that is past its prime? For instance, eye drops (that have been
opened) have a shelf life of three months. Nail polish will last you about a
year. Sunscreen? About three years. Weed out and safely dispose of anything that
has been living in your medicine cabinet for months or years over its intended
use period.
____ 3. Get your REAL ID-compliant driver's license. According to the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA), 'beginning October 1, 2021, every
air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver's
license, state-issued enhanced driver's license, or another acceptable form of
ID to fly within the United States.' My driver's license is set to expire soon,
and obviously there is still plenty of time before the October 2021 deadline.
Still, since my license has to be renewed, I'm just going to go ahead and get my
REAL-ID driver's license now...it's the one with the star on it. This doesn't
affect driving, but specifically affects flights. If your license is expiring
soon, and you plan to fly in the future, it may be worth it for you to just
get your REAL-ID compliant version now and save yourself a trip back to the
DMV.
