  TO DO This Week

TO DO This Week

____ 1. Take inventory of your jeans. How many pairs of jeans do you own? How many, of those, do you wear? It's a good time to determine the answer to both of these questions. Most folks own one or more jeans that don't fit quite right, are torn and are waiting (patiently) to be patched up, or are in a color or style that isn't flattering. I know most jeans are on the pricey side, and it's hard to say goodbye to clothes we purchased. But they're not doing us any good if we're not wearing them. In other words, it's a great week to make a donation to a friend who may love them more, or a local charity.

____ 2. Spot clean the toaster or toaster oven. Toasters and toaster ovens tend to fill with crumbs, and can look shabby very quickly if you allow melted food, grease, dust, etc. to build up on them. Unplug the appliance. Bring it near (NOT in) your sink. Shake out any crumbs into the sink, and/or remove any trays, etc. and empty those as well. With my toaster oven, crumbs and other debris often get stuck in between a crevice at the bottom of the fold-down door. I can get those out by folding a clean sheet of paper in half and running the edge of it it along this area. Use a dry, clean toothbrush (or a sponge with a scrubbie side) to gently clean the outside of the appliance. Any removable trays can be cleaned in the sink with dishwashing soap and rinsed well. Dry thoroughly before putting trays back into the appliance(s) and only plug in when everything is dry.

____ 3. Identify a clutter hot spot. Where does clutter tend to build in your home? On the kitchen table? Under a bed? In the medicine cabinet. Identify that hot spot, clean it out, add storage containers to contain similar items if needed and sort items into them. Then, determine what is causing this area to be a hotspot. The kitchen--Are you always trying to figure out where to put the mail and other papers, so they land on the kitchen table? Maybe you need a tray on your counter. Under the bed--Are you short on storage space and you know it's easy to just stuff things there? Perhaps, in this case, you might consider adding shelving or hooks on the wall or in a closet. The medicine cabinet--Maybe there are too many items in it and you might be able to stay more organized with an additional portable drawer unit in the bathroom. You get the idea. If an area is a clutter hot spot, there's a reason for it waiting to be solved.
